And this is why I don't use reddit:
Violentacrez and his fellow moderators worked hard to make sure every girl on jailbait was underage, diligently deleting any photos whose subjects seemed older than 16 or 17. Violentacrez himself posted hundreds of photos. Jailbait became one of Reddit's most popular subreddits, generating millions of pageviews a month. "Jailbait" was for a time the second biggest search term bringing traffic to Reddit, after "Reddit." Eventually, Jailbait landed on CNN, where Anderson Cooper called out Reddit for hosting it, and Violentacrez for creating it. The ensuing outcry led Reddit administrators to reluctantly ban Jailbait, and all sexually suggestive content featuring minors.

I'm all for freedom of speech, but jeesh. Thank god for moderated forums. And I'm glad this douchebag was outed. It's been a long lesson of mine to never post anything online that I wouldn't say in person.

The hilarious part has been Reddit's response. They'ce been crucifying Adrian for days (they even blocked gawker on ALL of Reddit) because they claim his profile was "doxxing."

So no, you can't compile easily available personal information on this middle aged white guy but YES you can post pictures of 11 year old black girls that you swiped from their Facebook or took in public (of their asses) and post it all under "niggerjailbait."

OH OKAY.

Ugh at those idiots. And they claim it's about the TOS but know what else Reddit prohibits in their TOS? Sexualized images, racism and offense behavior. But let's ignore that and focus on how horrible it is to identify a creepy sexual predditor.

He lost his job yesterday, at least.

I've poked around a little on Reddit, but much of what I saw makes Usenet look tame (I think it IS tame now - all the trolls I've seen in recent years were on Web forums). One of the biggest such entities may have been removed (and I never even heard of him or that subreddit), but there are many others.

Here's one I recall seeing:

He also slept with his step daughter (from descriptions he gave it sounds like he coerced her) and said his ex wife would get over it. He's been fired from his job now http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...gest-loses-job-identity-gawker_n_1967727.html

Michael Brutsch insisted he is not a pedophile but was unapologetic about Jailbait.

"I would stand by exactly what I've done." The problem was, he explained, that if his identity got out, his many enemies would start attaching lies to his name because they simply don't like his views. They would say he was a child pornographer, when all he had done was spearhead the distribution of thousands of legal photos of underage girls.
Umm there's a clue there idiot.

This all started because of a teacher was outed to his boss a headteacher by a woman who had found out his identity after he had been posting illegal upskirt photos of his underage female students whilst they were at their desks or out in the playground, on Creepshots and what he'd like to do them, plenty of parents are angry, http://www.myfoxatlanta.com/story/1...art=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=7771605

Love that word -- predditor.

Is it wrong I'm glad he was fired? I'm surprised he (or reddit) wasn't sued for posting those pictures in the first place. I really wish more web mods would crack down on the rapetastic forums they breed and nurture.

Give it time.

(And, frankly, I hope it happens and the rest of the douchebag posters have their identities revealed.)

Total chode. Seriously. I've been watching this on Gawker and cannot believe how many people are perfectly okay with him posting pics of minors under "RapeBait," and yet, they're calling foul on outing this butt-mitten.

It's a crucial step of the neutralization effect: "appeal to a higher cause." They'll keep shouting FREE SPEECH and RUINING THIS MANS LIFE all while ignoring their repugnant behavior. This is about the constitution, guys!

Well, actually, ruining someone's reputation because they're doing reprehensible things is one of the big ideas behind anarchist self organization...

So, yeah, fuck him.

I feel glad that I've never used Reddit.
Based on this article I would conclude that it's 4chan-lite.

Seems that a lot of folks forget that nothing is truly anonymous on the Internet. Don't want it attached to your real name? Don't post it. Period.

I don't understand how some people could call what this man did as freedom of speech. I've been reading about this on Gawker and reading how the people on Reddit think that people do not have a right to privacy in public or even in public toilets! And for women to "stop complaining" that they like their bodies.

I actually went onto Reddit this morning and looked at some of these photos and the women ARE scantily dressed with their butt cheeks hanging out and I would probably point and snicker at them behind their backs but putting photos of them on the internet without their permission and creeping up to them from behind to get close ups of their bums and underwear is NOT freedom of speech it IS wrong and anyone who thinks these people are not breaking any kind of law is stupid.

Saying that these women want attention and should like these people "like" their bodies is sex shaming them. If a woman wears a skirt she does NOT want people sticking their head up there to get photos of her crotch. Sorry, boys, but that is NOT okay and you ARE crossing a line there.

I'm sorry but there is such a thing as too MUCH freedom of speech. You should not be allowed to harass or torment or stalk people. What if one of the young women in these photos sees they are online and kills themselves? Will any of these people care then? Or would they just go rah rah rah free speech rah rah rah?

I'll point out that this has fuck-all nothing to do with Freedom of Speech. Reddit isn't the government, and neither is Gawker.

Not the First Amendment legal principle, no. But that doesn't mean a site can't be supportive of (non-caps) freedom of speech.

In *neither* instance, does such a freedom necessarily protect us from the consequences of exercising it.

As far as I'm concerned, these are all perfectly fair consequences.

Yep. It reminds me of when advertisers pulled their support from Rush for a while and everyone was talking about his freedom of speech. You're allow to say whatever you want, as long as it isn't putting another in danger. But, posting pictures, on a moderated site, is not speech. And freedom of speech isn't about saying whatever with no social consequences.

We stand for free speech. This means we are not going to ban distasteful subreddits. We will not ban legal content even if we find it odious or if we personally condemn it. Not because that's the law in the United States - because as many people have pointed out, privately-owned forums are under no obligation to uphold it - but because we believe in that ideal independently, and that's what we want to promote on our platform. We are clarifying that now because in the past it wasn't clear, and (to be honest) in the past we were not completely independent and there were other pressures acting on reddit. Now it's just reddit, and we serve the community, we serve the ideals of free speech, and we hope to ultimately be a universal platform for human discourse (cat pictures are a form of discourse).
So Reddit basically IS the new Usenet. Welcome to Endless Creeptember.

I won't say they should ban reddits they find distasteful, but the Reddit members shouldn't expect any sympathy when they get outed if they contribute to such places like Violentacrez did.

Here's an interview with whats-his-name - I saw the last part of it on Anderson Cooper. He talked about being unemployed with no job prospects, his wife with some bad illness, and he doesn't know what he's going to do now. He seemed to have no clue that what he had been doing might have been hurtful to others (as in the girls whos pics he posted - he clearly enjoyed causing outrage in those who were upset at his Reddit thing).

He's about as pathetic as you can imagine.
