Subtopian is a new magazine that is all about a world between possibilities. It isnít utopia, not yet, but itís not quite dystopia either. Weíre subtopian, still waiting to see which way this pendulum swings.

Founded by author Trevor Richardson, The Subtopian Magazine is a Portland-based magazine that looks for fiction, non-fiction, poetry and art. We look for work that deals with the issue of our impending future, that express a view of society in between the two extremes, dystopian fiction and, if youíre brave enough, a story describing utopia.

In addition to our regular magazine and submissions, we really want writers with wit and a sense of humor to help us generate regular, daily material that can be posted to the site in order to maintain an internet presence beyond just our monthly issue. We are looking for people to share articles, 300-1000 words, with a humorous, even geeky kind of bent, that take on Utopia and Dystopia. An example of what we want would be something like "The Top 5 Potential Dystopian Futures" then you could do a writeup about things that are happening right now that indicate a potential apocalypse on the rise. And so much is happening, the government has passed legislation to allow drone airplanes to fly over US soil, Skynet anyone? Freakin' cannibal people, possibly on drugs, have been in the news for months, so don't tell me you haven't been making your plans to survive a zombie invasion. The point is, there is so much to write about and a lot of fun to be had doing it. You don't have to be a "real" writer, in fact it's encouraged that you just be somebody with a funny thought to share, after all, Subtopian is looking to build community and part of that is getting some audience involvement.
Just leave us a little message that says you're interested and we'll take care of the rest.

Thanks so much!
