So the new series (the first full one in thirteen years) starts soon. High hopes, anyone? I've seen brief trails on Dave and it's looking OK although I'm a little disturbed at how old the actors are now. I know series seven was poor while eight was slightly better. Hoping ten goes back to the roots.

Sadly, since it's on Dave, and I have no terrestrial telly, let alone Sky, I won't be able to watch.

I do want to know how/if they'll explain why Rimmer looks so much older.

Hmm.... I kind of went off it about series 6. 3 and 4 were superb though. I dunno. I might give it a try but I hope it has grown seeing as the actors are all so much older now. Hope it's not the same old shtick.

I've been watching the re-runs on Dave and have really enjoyed them - despite the confusion of them being re-run backwards. I am so looking forward to X - the trailers look good. They cast do seem to have aged, with the possible exception of Danny John Jules who appears to be as slim as he was all those years ago and can still move with cat like elegance and grace. There was a pre-view for the press and the episode they watched got rave reviews, which sounds very promising.

Just as long as they do not have the bloody talking toaster in it...

I've seen a few reports, and from what I can gather (from the audiences they filmed in front of) it's back to the good stuff.

*Is excited*

Back to Earth got mixed reviews, but I enjoyed it for the most part. 3 and 4 were probably the best. It's been a while since I've seen 5. 6 had its moments but felt rushed.

I'm away next week so I'll have to record it and watch on my return.

I didn't watch Back to Earth cos I know from experience that that kind of thing rarely works.

Ah. That'll be because Rimmer became a hard light hologram. (shrug)

You've gone from a fictional reality to the real reality to discover you're played by a guy who works on Coronation Street? :D

LOL! In Red Dwarf time isn't that about three million years?

Doesn't look like it'll be broadcast in the States... at least not yet :( Used to love Red Dwarf (though I kind of stopped watching around series 4), and my 14-year-old discovered it through Netflix and is a big fan as well.

I'm tentatively excited.

Red Dwarf was on originally when I was a teenager and I watched it over and over. Love seasons 1/2 and 5 in particular. Wasn't that keen on 6 for some reason, and when it came back after that it went downhill rapidly. The most recent ones were a bit embarrassing.

Buuuuut I'm always willing to give new Red Dwarf a chance. Will be crossing my fingers that they've got it right this time.

Hadn't even heard they were making a new one. Loved the original series, although I didn't find Back to Earth as good. Does anyone know when it starts?

4th October, I think.

I still watch my DVD's over and over. The original series where real 'student' entertainment. But the recent reboots where tired, and going for the 'gross-out' market.

Not the best episode, like, ever. But pretty funny. I have hopes they'll settle back in.

I enjoyed it. Not as good as it was at it's best, but certainly better than the last few attempts.

Aww crap on a stick, I totally forgot about this. Will have to try and catch it on a repeat. Which, as it's Dave, will be a few thousand times.

Why is it on Dave anyway? Since when does Dave do original programming? I thought it was all QI and Mock the Week re-runs.

Bah. I'm just grumpy it's not on iPlayer.

Mr Flibble
10-05-2012, 02:24 PM
Because Dave commissioned the series, I suppose. Considering who they named the channel after.....

I'm sure they said it would be repeated before next week. You'll have to suck up to someone with Sky :D

This is the sort of thing those 'friends' I've heard so much about would be useful for isn't it?

Yes!

Or you could wait until November 19 when the dvd is released.

I quite enjoyed it. It wasn't at it's best but we have to give them time to get back into the groove.

And I did like the running joke.

There were a few duff moments, but all in all it was pretty good. Some great lines and fun little shoutouts to old times.

Someone obviously heard Jimmy

new to Dave, especially for Red Dwarf:

Dave on demand (http://video.uktv.co.uk/dave/red-dwarf/series-10/episode-1). Episodes available for a week after airing.

Yay! Red Dwarf!

That said, I feel like Danny John-Jules has not aged appreciably while everyone else has, which I find faintly alarming. What sort of horrible Faustian bargain did he make?

I caught up with the first two episodes the other night. Very enjoyable. Not its best but definitely better than the last two series.

I watched the second episode this week (still not seen the first), and although yeah enjoyable, it's just not what it was for me. There is something missing, but I can't put my finger on it. I'll see how it continues next week.

Darn it! I'm so out of the loop I didn't realise this was being shown. Off to check the TV schedules now! (I'm hoping they'll repeat the entire series soon.)

Let's hope not! (I'm able to record episode 3 onwards, and I'm hoping if I keep the series link going it'll catch the first 2 episodes if/when they're repeated.)

JimmyB27, some kind soul has put the first 3 episodes on YouTube, so you should be able to watch them now (I did - well, the first 2 episodes. I'm recording the 3rd one tonight so will be able to watch on my TV instead of my laptop.) :D

But thanks, I might actually re-watch them. :D

I thought the second episode was almost old-school Dwarf. The first and third were a bit disappointing, but they've all had the 'feel' of the earlier series, which the ones where the rest of the crew were back lacked, for me.

Ah, sorry - I forgot I was weeks behind, lol (by the time I arrived at the 'Dave on Demand' site, the episodes had expired! Still, might be handy for others who didn't realise they can be found on YouTube).
