During today's walk, we passed a minivan whose dash was heavy with electronics, manned by a woman in her late 60s or so, then a few hundred yards away, three men of similar age who were no doubt sending that equipment some data.
They each had a metal 'wand' about 3 to 3.5 feet long, with two to three cross-bars at the end away from its handle, each crossbar about 2.5 feet long. The overall impression was very like a very basic 50s-60s TV antenna.
The men held the wands sideways over the paved path, moving them from side to side at waist height (much to the chagrin of bicyclists caught unawares), then got more interested in a small meadow next to the path, especially the side nearer the highway overpass located there.
What were they trying to detect, do you think?
Maryn, thinking it's old "I Married Joan" episodes
