View Full Version : Help from someone with HVAC

I need help with having my MC being a peat. MC is sabotaging someone's a/c unit. The goal isn't to scrap the unit, just to be a nuisance. She wants to make it so that it keeps needing to get fixed. Btw this a home a/c not a car.

If she just wants to be a nuisance, and it's a heat pump type unit, she could either keep throwing the breaker or pulling the fuses out. Most units have a breaker or fuse box outside near the unit (older units have fuses, newer units have breakers).

Anything mechanical would just get fixed the first time, assuming the person fixing it knew what they were doing. Putting a newly deceased animal carcass in the intake would be pretty foul and hard to detect for a few days, without having to call in a repairman. Where is that smell coming from?

Mechanical is fine. The thing is that she keeps doing something different to it everytime it gets fixed. The smell idea is good. I think I may go for a fish though. It would fit the story better.

Does she want it to seem weird that it keeps happening? Is it a window unit or for, say, an apartment building? A house with a Trane/other unit outside?

It's not a window unit, part of a central air system. Is Trane a style or a brand?

Mysterious or obvious could work. Nothing hugely complex though. It would need to be something a reasonably intelligent, but layperson, could do.

Trane is a brand name.

Most of the central units have components that can be easily accessed with a screwdriver. Take off the panel and clip/pull out a wire. Easy.

Cutting wires/ pulling wires will work. Anyone know ways to fritz the system by using the blower or the ventilation ducts?

Merged threads. :)

Bend and crack a coolant line. Put a rock in the fan blades. Cut a power line...

There are as many ways to sabotage air conditioning as you can possibly think of. Look up a Trane manual online and see what's easy to access.

Chewing up wires or hoses would work. There are animals that do that, and sometimes they are persistent, but it wouldn't be hard to make it look like an animal did eat the hose or wire.

A hole in the coolant line could work. The central AC at my old apartment used to spring a leak every year and it wouldn't be noticeable until the hottest day of the year when suddenly the AC wouldn't want to cool the place down.

Thanks for the advice. MC should have plenty of tactics for future monkey wrenching.

Our central air went out because a bug (earwig, as I recall) crawled into the relay. Expensive bug when you have to call the repair guy because the unit won't work. :(

If she opened up the electrical box and shoved in a handful of insects, sooner or later one would probably gum up the works.
