I do love that there was Indian Dancing in the Monty Python sketch considering David Cameron's recent comments on why he cut sports funding for schools.

David Cameron has defended the scrapping of targets for the amount of sport children play in school, saying some youngsters spend two hours performing "Indian dance".

The prime minister has come under fire for ditching the requirement that schools offer pupils at least two hours of sport a week. Critics have called for the target to be reinstated as Britain achieves record success at the London Olympics.

But Cameron said: "The trouble we have had with targets up to now, which was two hours a week, is that a lot of schools were meeting that by doing things like Indian dance or whatever, that you and I probably wouldn't think of as sport, so there's a danger of thinking all you need is money and a target.

"If that was the solution we would have solved the problem by now."

And yet, Indian dance, or any dance, gets everyone up and moving, unlike team sports, where most are sitting on the sidelines while a few are on the field.

Did I miss something, or isn't there usually a taste of the next Olympics? A bit of singing and dancing by Brasil or such? I didn't see anything, but I did step away for a few minutes. I still remember with great fondness the giant kangaroo figures/puppets from the Australia preview.

Monty Python song was awesome. Seemed like they skipped a few of the major artists I think of when I think about the UK, U2, Coldplay, Phil Collins, Leona Lewis, Elton John. A lot of older stuff, which makes sense I guess, except randomly that horrible, horrible boyband One Direction. Who the hell came up with that idea. The one singer butchered Wonderwall. Loved the Spice Girls.

That one singer is the brother of the one who wrote it, Liam Gallagher was the singer who sang it tonight as he's always sung the song. His voice is ropey I admit.

But Beady Eye is Oasis without Noel Gallagher. Because Noel left Oasis in 2009 and 2009 Beady Eye was formed.

I wonder where Mick Jagger was in all of this?

He attended several games but he said they turned down performing:

The Rolling Stones were invited to perform at the Olympics, but Jagger told the media that the band declined the invitation because the Rolling Stones did not feel they were ready to perform at that event. In a July 2012 interview with the London Evening Standard, Jagger commented: "We haven't played in a long time and we weren't really stage ready. It's a very big gig and it's very risk taking. I didn't think the band felt they were really ready to do it at this point."

Well, good for him, declining if he thought they weren't up to snuff. Jagger was on Saturday Night Live a few months ago and was just great. I mean, he was funny in the skits, and performed like the rock star that he is. It would have been nice to see him out there.

Yes, NBC cut almost all of this to show a new sitcom. We didn't see Muse, the Who or Ray Davies. they also acted like the closing was basically over when they cut away rather than admitting the decided to try and funnel millions of viewers into their dire show rather than giving them what they tuned in for.

I forget the band that confused me -- Pet Shop Boys maybe? But the imagery struck me as a colorful Klan salute! What was up with all of the hoods and pointy hats?

I love Russell Brand as a comedian/performer. I really get a kick out of watching him. I know that's not popular, but he's a favorite :D The Tempest was only watchable because of his role.

Victoria Beckham's legs looked nice on TV. That was a surprise. The camera really does add pounds, apparently. (She only creeps me out because I think she diets to get that way. And she's creepy ;)).

I think Russell Brand as Willy Wonka is a very intriguing idea. He might be perfect actually.

My husband was wondering during the Pet Shop Boys portion of the show what people in isolated parts of the world watching the show would think about that whole thing. Those hats were unique to say the least. ;)

That's funny, I was thinking about Robert Plant and his appearance in Beijing. That would have been too cool, a Page and Plant reunion.

Would love to go to Rio, but more for the beaches and parties than anything else!

Yeah, I've heard they really know how to do it down there.

But don't say "beach"- a little nudge is all I'll need to chuck everything today and head down to Venice- I'm hating these triple digit, humid days!

Go to the beach. It's the only bearable place around here. Right now I only go out at night. (But I'm not a zombie yet.)

That was a reference to a famous UK sitcom episode in which our heroes Del Boy and Rodney were on their way to a costume party.
