I seem to be writing a story set in Cordoba, 940 AD. Anyone have any useful facts I need to know? I've read The Ornament of the World (http://www.amazon.com/The-Ornament-World-Christians-Tolerance/dp/0316168718/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1341526492&sr=8-1&keywords=ornament+of+the+world) but that's about it.

The only useful fact I have is that readers expect historical settings to be rigorously factual and correct in every detail, so the author needs to do/have done shedloads of research and have every aspect of the time period nailed down perfectly. Good luck!

If you get historical details wrong, there will be readers out there who will call you on it.

As Unimportant says...research.

And here I was hoping you'd say I could fudge the details and get away with it. Alas.
