In my WIP, one of the MCs lives on a big cat sanctuary with lions and a tiger. Has anyone had close contact with these big cats who can answer some questions about their behavior in specific situations? Thanks in advance!
The most notable difference between lions and tigers is that lions are creatures of plains and grasslands, mainly, and live in social groups (unusual for cats) with a dominant male, while tigers are solitary, territorial, and forest ambush stalkers. Female lions do nearly all the actual hunting for the pride, and the male horns in generally after the kill. Tigers hunt individually.
I read a nice book I'd recommend on the basis of it being a good read (I assume it is accurate), The Wilderness Family by Kobie Kruger. Africa, game warden, adopted a lion--lots of info on how the big cats behave and interact with this family.
