There, I said it.

Just took a fistful of ibuprofen in hopes that they will go away before I HAVE to go to work. Wish I could stay home and just curl up on the couch, or in the bed. But for some reason it IS a good thing to keep a relatively sound over your head (which is what my checks go toward -- rent). This will probably repeat itself tomorrow, and THEN I will get a day off. Hopefully, by then, the worst of them will be gone.

Might have to pick up some chocolate gelato on the way home, too. That will help dull the pain, fo sho!!

Cramps where?

I get them in my hands after doing 10K words.

Bananas, potatoes(with skin), tomatoes will help you.
Skim milk and some stretching doesn't hurt in the morning also.

Ginger beer (non-alcoholic). After around twelve hours of agony a few days ago with this, I had a few sips of ginger beer, and it stopped. What also works for me is to drink horchata (the rice, almonds, sugar, cinnamon version) for the day before they're due to start, and during the first day or so, and they're reduced enormously.

Much sympathy! I hope you're feeling a lot better now.

Have you tried chemical heating pads? Not the eucalyptus sort, the ones that actually produce heat.

It did make me chuckle that all the women on the thread immediately assumed the same kind of cramp. But the only man (as far as I know!) had to ask......

But was pretty sure he had a remedy.

This is one of those conversations between women that men either misinterpret or are completely oblivious to.

Heating pad for sure. They have heat patches you can tape on your lower tummy and/or lower back for work. You'll look 4 months pregnant, but you'll be glad for the mobility, lol. Those are OTC.

My cramps progressed to endo territory. Damn! I am certainly impressed with hormones after that started. Talk about painful. I take Rx meds that cover that, although male docs tended to suggest a couple of ibuprofen *rolls eyes* (and I'm not kidding about their reaction).

I've heard heat helps, i.e. take a super hot bath and drink a bunch of tea.

Of course, I just use drugs, personally. I hope you're finding relief, whatever you do. (((hugs)))

Heat is the best for cramps. The best thing that I use is a rice bag. Basically, fill an old tube sock with white rice, tie it shut, then heat it up in the microwave for about two minutes. The heat lasts for a long time and the sock contours to your body.

I'll second ginger beer - there's a really light, fizzy variety here called Old Jamaican that's nice and refreshing and has a settling effect. Sticky, treacle-y ginger cake seems to help too, but that might just be an excuse for me to eat the stuff since I like it more than chocolate. Heat pads are great, but a total pain in hot weather. If you've got a bath in your house, have a LONG soak.

I know around here in the UK you can get a codeine/paracetemol blend over the counter without a prescription and that works wonders for me. Get it if it's available - the stuff is a lifesaver!

If you get cramps that extend into the legs, it also helps to keep your feet raised when you're resting.

Hugs and chocolate to you! Cramps suck.

*edit*
Also, if you've got an ah, understanding, other half. Laying back, relaxing and getting a spot of oral is incredibly soothing. :drool

Ooo! I'm trying this next time.

Since I went on the pill these haven't been so bad. I still get super tired though.

Several years ago, my girlfriend gave me one of those heating patches, a really big one, for my lower back pain.

I could feel the heat immediately, but within 30 minutes I had cramps so bad I though an alien was trying to get out of me. I ripped the damn thing off and ran for the bathroom and took a really dump. What shocked me is my dump was steaming...

I have talked to others who have had the same problems. The big ones on the lower back heats up more than muscles...

Never again, never again...

To be fair, my cramps coincide with my monthlies, and since those generally screw my digestion around a bunch anyway, I guess I wouldn't notice if heatpads had erm... secondary effects.
