I need a couple of words to describe a 'five o'clock shadow' in a sexy way. If anyone watched the show LOST, I'm trying to describe a similar look what Sawyer had. I'd appreciate any help you could give! Thanks! :)

ruggedly handsome or the rugged outdoorsman look

the look of a hunter after two days in the brush

weekend unshaven look

natural with a two-days growth of beard

wild but also civilized

unapologetically unkempt or unshaven

What's wrong with using a five o'clock shadow? The reader can certainly see it.

It's a waaaaay overused dead mummified cliché. If you need to describe this feature, find a better way.

Stubble-darkened jaw.

Stubble darkened his jaw.

A shadow of stubble darkened his jaw.

A shadow of stubble defined/contoured his jaw.

A recent shave couldn't hide the rugged shadow on his jaw.

Of course it's cliche and there are more "original" ways to say it, but my point is to keep it simple. Love Brian's suggestions above, especially number one. Now, that's simple. :)

"Sporting a Don Johnson." :)

During the Miami Vice era, you could buy razors that left this stubble. It was often referred to as a "perfectly manicured five-o'clock shadow."

I'd say it's less a cliché than the standard term for the phenomenon.

I'm loving the feedback! Saying "five o'clock shadow" just sounded too plain for the situation I was trying to describe. I appreciate the great suggestions! :)
