It is a Roy Orbison song. Nazareth reproduced it faithfully, at least as far as their metal way would allow.

actually it was written by boudleaux bryant.

the best version i've ever heard was a duet by emmylou harris and gram parsons.

Did Boudleaux actually record it, or did he write it for someone else?

i'm not aware of him recording it, no.

My "research" (Googling) indicates that he did record some, but was primarily a writer and had been a fiddler. But what a writer! What else did he write? (Many with his wife Felice)

Interesting. I just downloaded the Roy Orbison version (SHH! Don't give me up to the Record Companies!).

I prefer the Nazareth song.

And as far as the lyrics, I think they are better SUNG than READ.

I spent a lot of summers in Wyoming, so somewhere I've got my old hat and lariat, and maybe a fossilized can of Copenhagen....

But the spurs came later.

Copenhagen, that was the chew I tried once, on a dare. I was siiiiick. Plus, it's unfeminine, and I'm a delicate flower. (But I can spit pretty good)
