Can anyone help me with a quote? I can't remember who said it but it's something to the effect:

"If there's a gun on the wall in act one, you'd better shot the darn thing before the curtain goes down."

Appreciate the help.

The quote appears in many forms, but the original is usually attributed to Chekov. IE, don't introduce any emotionally charged elements into a play (or book) that aren't resolved before the end.
