Okay, here's what I'm looking for. I'd like my main characters to have a device, preferably something small, pocket-sized, that they can carry that will disrupt electronics. I want it to definitely be able to interfere with cameras, but maybe even cell phones or other wireless devices. I'm not too picky, but the camera thing is most important. If it could wipe memories on things that would rock, too, but if that doesn't work that's okay.
Anyway, I don't know that anything like this really exists, and it's okay with me if it doesn't. I'm cool with making up tech for this book. The problem is, I'm not quite sure what could realistically do something like this. I need a way to explain it that sounds logical, and want to make sure that I don't describe something in a way that's completely unrealistic. In other words, an EMP could definitely mess with cameras and electronics, but would take out all electricity, and I don't want it to do that.
Any creative techies out there have any thoughts on something that could be realistic enough not to ruin suspension of disbelief?
