Things I don't really understand

I gather an Ekranoplan is to a plane as an ostrich is to a bird: each looks like its class but doesn't fly.

With that in mind, I'd think your Ekranoplan watches are as ironic as a lot of Eastern European 'hip' evocations of Soviet supremacy. There was something pretty stupid about Kruschev, but it must have felt good to be young and suspect you were part of an invincible Soviet union.
