InkSpell Publishing is proud to launch its own short story magazine, InkTales Magazine. The first issue launches in June. We're still in the middle of putting up a website for the magazine, but we're already looking for Submissions.

Our first monthly theme is "Beginnings".

Every story has a beginning which in itself is a story - the story of how they met, why the spell was cast, how he got the powers or the story of why she failed. There are always tales to tell before the real story begins. We want these tales of how it all began. And we want them short!

All genres accepted, except erotica. We allow sensual stories, but nothing too graphic.
Maximum 5,000 words. (around 1,000 words is preferred).

We will pay $25 per accepted short story.

Please send submissions to submissions@inkspellpublishing.com

Type InkTales, Beginnings, <genre> in the subject line of your email.

The last date for submissions is May 22nd, 2012.

If you have any questions, please ask them here or send me a PM.

Thank you for letting us know, and congratulations on launching a new publication!

Are you accepting reprint subs or original material only?

What rights are being sought?

Interesting! I'll need to sift through my hard drive and see if I have anything that won't make you scream and throw your computer with the story to the floor in anger readable.

eternalised, does the mag send auto-acknowledgements to emailed submissions? And what's the predicted turnaround time?

I might have something! It's a little on the longer side, just barely over 5,000 words but I can shave a bit off. Looking forward to sharing!

This sounds like an excellent opportunity. I'm going to write something and then email it to you sometime in early May.

Sorry I didn't reply to the questions yet.

We send mails to everyone whose submission we have received, to confirm that we've received it. As for predicted turnaround time, you will know whether your submssion is accepted in the last week of May or first week of June.

If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask! Thanks to everyone who submitted so far :)

I sent the first chapter of a novel I'm working on. I think it works as a stand alone story too.

Thanks for giving us writers a new conduit to get our work out to the masses.

I'm so happy I saw this post. I finished a new edit of a short story that needed a home, and it just happens to be about the beginning of a relationship. So I've sent it off and hope you enjoy it!

MysteryRiter, if you think your stuff is no good, you are undoubtedly a writer, an artist...and not unique.

Most submissions I've made have been preceded by the thought that it's no good. Then, I often think that even after it's published.

Good luck!

I reckon there's a dozen or so AW'ers with stories on sub. Here's hoping that lots of y'all get acceptances -- it'd be awesome to see an AW issue takeover! ;-)

I think they're only getting in touch with acceptances, as the automated reply was "All selected submissions will be intimated in the last week of May - first week of June."

Ah. So, this being the second week in June, anyone with a no-response can assume it's a rejection. Good to know.

And good to know that they're a no-response-means-no market, as some people dislike subbing to such markets.

Hey everyone,

I asked the editor in charge if the rejections would get a notice or not for this one. I'll let you know once I have a response. I know that with BEA editors have been very busy this week, so it could also be that they're a bit delayed.

Just received news from the editor in charge. She will get in touch with everyone, regardless of whether your work has been rejected or accepted as soon as possible, probably within the next week.

Is this (accepting submissions) something that happens regularly? I missed the deadline this time but it sounds like something I'd like to do in the future.

Here's the URL for the magazine submission guidelines: http://www.inkspellpublishing.com/inktales.html

Noting that they've changed the guidelines: the OP listed "Maximum 5,000 words. (around 1,000 words is preferred)" but they now say they want 4000 - 6000 words.

Thanks for the updates! I did submit a story of about 3400 words - that was before the 4K-6K range so hopefully length won't be a reason for rejection.

I got a rejection today too. Just boilerplate. At least people know the responses are coming! And, as it is a free e-zine, we'll be able to go back and see what they did accept. That is often a useful exercise as we just keep writing, writing, writing....

It comes up through the initial link you provided (http://www.inkspellpublishing.com/inktales.html) in post 42 but no info if you use the direct Inkspell link. A bit odd.
