I'm looking for blogs, sites, articles, etc. with lots of short excerpts from various published works of prose fiction (i.e., not fan-fiction). Examples of good writing, bad writing, funny writing, poetic description, offensive writing, whatever--anything with lots of excerpts. Not book store sites, though.

Here's one example: http://www.reddit.com/r/proseporn

Thanks.

edit: If you don't already know many of these sites (they exist), the question might confuse you. In that case, there's not much I can tell you.

Why?

Every such resource I know of has been helpful and/or enjoyable.

Why do you ask?

Why do you ask? :confused:Because it's weird. You can just go to the library.

What's a library? I'll Google it.

Oh wow, they have tons of books and stuff there. This changes everything. Thanks so much. :)

Sigh. You're missing the point.

No, I'm confused too. Why do you need people to provide excerpts of 'good writing' when you could close the computer, get up and walk to your bookshelf and/or ereader of choice and do the same thing? And those excerpts would probably be more to your taste.

Or are you just here to link your site?

Because I find those sites very enjoyable, and every sensible suggestion has a decent chance of being added to my bookmarks list.

These sites offer me a much different experience than that of sifting through my bookshelf or library shelves and reading various passages, which I already do.

I guess you're assuming both provide the same thing, but they don't.

Or are you just here to link your site?

Just wow.

Guys, maybe I'm crazy but I don't think the OPs question is unreasonable. I think you are (as I myself did) misunderstanding what the OP is looking for. At least judging from the website he posted, he's not looking for 50 pg excerpts/to read as much as he can without paying. He's looking for standout passages, paragraphs, lines, that sort of thing. OP, maybe you could edit your original post to be a little clearer as to what you're looking for? Personally, I think it's kind of a cool idea, having a site where people post their favorite tidbits from their favorite novels.

If anything, you're the most sane person who has replied. I don't even have a website. Serious amounts of paranoia, lol. The suspicious undertones of that first "Why?" were practically olfactible. :D

Here's another example: http://romance.unclewaltersrants.com/

There's a wide net--there are sites with snippets of beautiful prose, there are sites with snippets of bad romance, a friend of mine has a site with snippets of a few particular authors, and so on.

For that reason the question was intentionally unspecific. Despite its lack of specificity, what it was asking for was pretty clear, though. Sites with excerpts of prose fiction. Figuring that out is not rocket entomology or something, jeez.

Libraries and bookshelves, uh, yeah, they're not the same thing.

I feel oddly disinclined to do the OP any favours. Maybe s/he needs to layer on some more sarcasm; I'm sure that'd change my mind.

I'm sorry; I was just frustrated :Hug2:. But sure.

Count me as boggled by many of the responses here. I understood the request just fine.

SomethingOrOther, I haven't run up on those kinds of blogs/sites very often, or at least no blog dedicated to doing that and nothing else. Usually they're buried in other blog posts about boring stuff I don't care about. :/ Sites I tend to stay away from. There's piranha swimming in the waters sometimes....

Now I want to start one. Maybe...maybe I will! Although, it will just be all my own opinion and not the opinion of many others.

You can probably find some of that stuff on Goodreads. Otherwise...
