I have a scene set in January of 1810 in London where a brother has filched one of his sister's French novels from its secret hiding place and is reading it aloud to their youngest brother as a "French lesson" complete with over-dramatic gestures and falsetto voice. It's meant to be a humorous scene.
I've looked around on the web to find an appropriately garish overblown French novel from the late 18th or early 19th century, preferably in English translation; but my Google-fu has failed.
Does anyone know of an appropriate book? Or even a scene or two?
I'm willing to make it up but I'd rather use a real one.
Thanks!
