Okay, so I've been reading the threads in here, and I've gotten so angsty that I'm thinking about just avoiding places like Amazon entirely, and just selling my book on my own website, so I can have total control over it.
I know I probably won't make many sales this way, and I'm keeping that in mind as something to consider before going ahead with it.
But what I wanted to know was... Has anyone sold a book on their own website before?
What do you need to pay for, exactly? Do you give a commission to whichever payment processor you're using? Do you have to buy an ISBN? Any other expenses?
What about the website itself? Are you allowed to make money on a free website? Like, livejournal or whatever offer free sites. Can you make money there? I really don't know.
I take it I'd have to pay to get my site listed in Google, but what else would I need to pay for? A program to write the secure coding for transactions?
I have no idea...
This just seems easier than dealing with 3rd parties right now. But maybe it won't be...
Sorry. Angst. I has it.
Anybody have any answers for me?
(Final question - What about tax? Do I just pay Australian tax, as it's my website and I'm in Australia? I have no idea about this... HELP!)
