I've got cupcakes, Kahlua, vodka and several bags of chips. Who's up for some movies, pedicures and pillow fights?! :D

KitCat
01-23-2012, 10:48 PM
*plugs in and turns on the wall of moniters, pcs, consoles and the massive TV screen for movies* All the geek you can handle in less time than it takes to say "As you wish"

AbielleRose
01-23-2012, 10:52 PM
Loving the set up! The lava lamps sure do give this place some pizzazz! Now all we need are some of those old school gaming chairs. You know, the ones that look like an upside down comma?

swachski
01-23-2012, 10:58 PM
Oooh, I'm up for it!

*brings in a set chairs*

AbielleRose

Ooh, hookah action!

This little guy wanted to join too. There must be a hidden geek world beneath my keyboard...

I'm not a geek, but I lurve me some cupcakes and chips...

...Somethin almost naughty about that sweet and salty combination, ya know? ;)

AbielleRose
01-24-2012, 12:01 AM
When my girlfriends and I had slumber parties as kids my dad would always give us $5.00 to go rent movies (our local store had 5 movies for $5.00 for 5 days). We'd always get Arachnophobia with the sole purpose of scaring ourselves into staying up as late as possible so we could get the most out of our party.

Wonder if that would still work...

Lavern08
01-24-2012, 12:04 AM
Dunno, but a pint of Haagen-Dazs Coffee ice cream would (wink, wink) :)

AbielleRose

You might love these, they're called 'chippers'. They're sort of a Fargo institution from a famous chocolate shop in town. Basically just potato chips dipped in chocoate. So, so good!

Those look so goood, Abielle.

What movies are on the queue?

AbielleRose
01-24-2012, 12:16 AM
I'm thinking The Princess Bride, Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Arachnophobia... in reverse order. :D

Any other movie suggestions?

Lavern08
01-24-2012, 12:25 AM
The Notebook?

(Told ya I'm a girly-girl and not a geek) :tongue

AbielleRose
01-24-2012, 12:44 AM
Nothing wrong with girly girlness. :D The Notebook was such a good movie. Makes me cry every time.

Have you seen Bridesmaids?

Medievalist
01-24-2012, 12:59 AM
This is not what we do at geek parties.

If it doesn't involve SSH, it's probably not gonna happen.

swachski
01-24-2012, 01:04 AM
Good movie line-up, though I will be hiding under the pillows throughout Arachnophobia.

How about Little Miss Sunshine? Juno? Airplane?

Those chocolate covered chips look sinful *grabs a handful*

*hides in corner*

You've been spotted! Get out of that corner!

AbielleRose

I've only seen Juno out of those 3 movies. With all the awesome screen hook ups Kit has going on we can have multiple movies going on!

It's amazing what a simple word change can do.

The Geek Chicks Guy's Girls Night Out

Oh, hi Cray!

A little SSH, a little tunneling past the firewalls, pop open a port or two...

mirandashell
01-24-2012, 01:32 AM
Potatoes and chocolate....NO!

Pass me the popcorn. And Cray, you've got the best seat. Shift.

Honestly, we need security on the door......

Any OJ going?

Psychomacologist
01-24-2012, 01:45 AM
It's okay. We've got an anti-man shield that I imported from SFF. (It's very clever - relies on psychometric readings of gender identity rather than chromosomes...)

Also, ladies, we cannot truly celebrate female geekery without watching Alien and Aliens. Duh.

AbielleRose
01-24-2012, 01:53 AM

Although not for much longer.......

Awww! Cute stormtrooper guy!

*brings her cute monster-shaped dice bag and watches A New Hope*

EDIT: Also, I used to be terribly arachnophobic and was scared to death of ever seeing the movie Arachnophobia when I was younger. And then I watched it eventually and it didn't scare me at all. Neither did 8-Legged Freaks. To this day, I can't be in the same room with one of those big rubber spider toys*, but I'll watch spider movies all day long.

*Seriously, if you throw one of those at me, I'm likely to run away screaming. I'm shuddering just thinking about it.

I remember going to see Star Wars when it first came out. First I went the cinema without a parent.

Ahhhh happy days.

Believe it or not - I was just a little tyke - I went with my daddy. I didn't know what it was about, and didn't want to see no war movie. I came out of the theatre with my eyes wide open and belief in a new creator...

I have turned against him now, for he has gone off the path into the darkness.. I will not follow. I wait, and I believe. I wait for him to emerge again and lead us on the right side of the force

mirandashell

This thread title bothers me a little. The tone of the discussion is cool, but the heading makes it sound like an exclusive party where one sex is preferred over another.

What troubles me almost as much is that there's a punctuation omission in the title. That's unforgivable!

No need to hide behind Cray, if we didn't want boys we'd have posted a 'No Boys Allowed' sign. :)

Gah! How could we have forgotten Joss Whedon? Did anyone else like Dollhouse? I really wish it would have gone beyond 2 seasons.

SK, Everyone's welcome. If you'd like to tweak the title feel free to do so. A few of us girls were just talking on Twitter about a Geek/Nerd girls thing and decided to take it up a step. :)

Oh, I won't change the title, except maybe to add the possessive form to Girls.

I just wanted to express that I'm not comfortable with the title, which is fine as long as others don't see a problem. I can be overly-cautious in trying to make everyone feel inclusive, but at the same time, I don't want to ruin anyone's fun, either.

It's a fine line, sometimes.

Let's see... No tartan, I'm afraid, but can I interest you in black silk with vibrant pink lace and dark purple decorative stitching? It's great for making a statement on stage. ;)

hehe that's okay, rarely wear eyemakeup, but my nails? Always nice to have them purty for killing online baddies and raiding for hours on end :2angel:

I'm thinking black nails, a red/purple pentagram (colour of your choice) on each nail, and a layer of clear varnish... That's for your fingernails. For your toenails? Possibly electric pink with black letters (words of your choice).

I may need a magnifying glass and a tiny paintbrush for the pinky toe...

OMG, I recently bought 2 Nightwish CDs and have been listening to the songs off those pretty often. ("Once" and "Imaginaerum".) And as it happens, I bought Tarja's CD before finding Nightwish. What was it called again? ... "What Lies Beneath".

Yup, they have awesome style, physically and musically. :)

AbielleRose

The Tarja CD I have is called My Winter Storm. The whole CD is good! Its hard to say that about so many that come out, even if you really like the artist. Have you heard Nightwish's song Nemo? I had that on repeat for hours the other night. There's another one that Marco sings the lead on called While Your Lips Are Still Red. YouTube it, you won't be sorry.

Must be all the hawt nerdy ladies :D

This thread title bothers me a little. The tone of the discussion is cool, but the heading makes it sound like an exclusive party where one sex is preferred over another.
The title is more of a joke than anything else, but the point of the thread was kinda to unite girls/ladies/women who are geeks/nerds in a show of solidarity. (On a serious note, the nerdy industry is often male-dominated and perceived as being 'only for men', so this is kinda a fight back)

But it's not like we can stop guys letting themselves in *glares at Cray and Haggis*

A good alien movie sound great for tonight. Ooh, that reminds me! When I was a kid there was a SF show on (either Disney or Nick) that was set on a space ship. I've been trying to find it but can't think of the name and only remember one of the characters really, really well. He had really long wavy hair and was from Andromeda. Hi and good night parumpdragon :)

And Daria? Hmmm...I'm not sure who I was in high school. Maybe a mix of Angela from My So Called Life and Winnie Cooper from The Wonder Years. Except people took my shyness as bitchy until they got to know me. :)

Daria was awesome. I have the whole series on DVD. :D

Now if only they'd come out with California Dreams on DVD...

*gasp* I have the entire box set of DARIA too!!

Not really sure who I was in high school, but I definitely feel like Daria at this point now. :)

As for "Saved By the Bell", I would probably be more so Jessie. Hahahaha. Really.

There are few things better than a big pile of mallows and kitty cuddles. :D

Oh yes, I definitely agree.

Question is...are we thinking towards the same thing? :D

I was a real Daria in high school too, and I also have the entire collection on DVD. :)

Nowadays I'd rather be more like Jane. ;)

Jane was awesome. I had a cartoon crush on Trent, too, back then.

Mmm... coffee... *pours triple espresso*

I could wallow in coffee, if allowed.

I like how your mind works. :D

...and Grits - don't forget the hot, buttered grits, Girlfriend! ;)

AbielleRose

I've never had grits. That's just like runny mashed potatoes only with ground corn, right?

parumpdragon

Uh yeah - never had grits either.

Bacon. Just. Bacon.

You guys are making me hungry... I just had meatballs for breakfast (too lazy to actually cook... had half of my meatball sub left over from last night but the bread tasted like crap so I just picked the meatballs out).

Zucchini bread and coffee w/sugar for me. I need my morning sugar rush followed by the inevitable sugar crash. Bacon and meatballs just don't do that for me.

parumpdragon
01-25-2012, 09:32 PM
french bread dipped in olive oil, a little Oregano on it, banana, and yogurt :)

That was breakfast.

I know, I'm odd.
