I caught the last half hour or so of A Few Good Men a little while ago (even though I've seen it multiple times, the courtroom stuff is still a must watch for me) and, of course, got to see Kiefer Sutherland steal the scene, even with heavyweights around him.

I love these kinds of moments: when an actor usually regarded as being a "lesser tier" sort successfully steals a scene or two from the alpha dogs. Another fav of mine in this regard is Mark Wahlberg in The Departed.

Who are some of your favorite scene stealers?*

* Alan Rickman is disqualified, since he steals every scene he is in.

I disagree with Wahlberg stealing any scenes in The Departed. He is a great actor but he kind of just threw temper tantrums.

I don't know if this counts, but I would say Ray Liotta in Goodfellas.

Al Pacino in Godfather Part I. Outshined Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall in my opinion and in only his second movie.

And of course, Ben Stiller stealing scenes left and right from Robert De Niro in the Focker Trilogy. (jk)

Jesus knows I hate it when I have to agree with robsie, but now I have to do it twice. First, for Wahlberg in The Departed. And second, for the comment about Alan Rickman, which is thoroughly correct. To which, I'll add:

Ron Perlman in The Name of the Rose.

Philip Seymour Hoffman in "Boogie Nights" (and everything else, before he started getting leads). If he was on screen, he was who I was watching. How does he do that?

Chris Tucker in The Fifth Element.

And not in a good way.

I think Gene Hackman tends to fall into this category in just about any movie he is in. And Ray Liotta in Field of Dreams.

For females, Helen Mirren in Red and in National Treasure II.

Daniel Day Lewis in Gangs of New York comes to mind. He was that movie.

I would say Aaron Eckhart in The Dark Knight. He really was perfect for the role of Two Face and outclassed pretty much every other actor in the movie.

Edna Mode in The Incredibles. I'd heard so much about her going into the movie and was glad she wasn't on screen for any longer. Otherwise, they'd have had to change the title to Edna Mode and the Incredibles.
