View Full Version : The Phoenix Review Call for Submissions (poetry and short stories)

01-21-2012, 02:55 AM
The Phoenix Review (inaugaral issue Feb 2012) is a literary journal dedicated to truly outstanding, imaginative fiction and poetry. Will appear in print and ebook form.

We (the editors) are looking for prose and verse that doesn’t hesitate to break traditional boundaries. Please do not cautiously plod along with the current trends of literary fiction…which, to our dismay, has become rife with pseudo-intellectual “irony” that is neither intellectual or ironic (or worth the webspace or paper it tarnishes). That being said, we also want to discourage the use of so-called “innovative” forms of structure, verse, plot, etc. that are unique only for the purpose of standing out or highlighting a gimmick. Gimmicks are cheap (and not at all unique!).

Above all, poetry and literary fiction, for the purposes of our publication is writing that NEEDS to be written, whether it be for the purpose of the author or the audience. If you have written something that you feel matters, even if only to you, SEND IT.

Please submit poetry (no more than 6 poems) and/or short fiction (3000 word max) IN THE BODY OF THE EMAIL (no attachments will be opened) to: phoenixreview@yahoo.com (http://phoenixreview.wordpress.com/phoenixreview@yahoo.com)
At your discretion, you may choose to include a brief author bio listing any relevant publication credits. Cover letters always welcome.

Allow up to 3 weeks for a response, then feel free to re-submit or check on the status of your submission if you have not heard from us. Should any of your writing be accepted for publication, The Phoenix Review acquires First North American Serial Rights. In addition, The Phoenix Review reserves the right to nominate its contributors for awards or recognition (i.e. Pushcart Prize).
