When people make you click on a thread to know what it's really about.

I like my "hooks" in books, not online. :)

I know, I know . . . whine whine.

Just sayin!

Not where you last saw me.
LOL I feel the same way. That's why I hover my cursor over the thread title to read more before clicking on it.

Ooh, Ari's smart! And more patient than some, too.

Maryn, clickin' fool

We wouldn't be referring to any particular glorious golden thread, now, would we? :tongue

I love suspense, and those threads tickle me. Except when they don't:

The mechanics of necromancy...

... Is bringing back an archaic word okay in my novel??????

The intricacies of romantic tapestries...

...my MC has an affair with her Chinese gardener is this culturally okay???

 Nope. If patience was the only virtue, I'd have packed mah bags for Hell decades ago. No, I look for small ways to keep myself out of hot water and, if commenting on a particular thread is likely to earn me a time-out or a banning, I prefer not to read the sucker in the first place. 'cause, yanno, I haz a snotty temper and I done told Mac I'm working on curbing mah bitchiness.

I do what Ari does as well, except I hate when all I see is "I'm sorry if this is in the wrong place, if it is can a mod blah blah blah..."

So usually I just skip it.

And with that said, I try to make my first sentence my question or relevant to my question so when others do as I do, they won't just pass it by.

I didn't even realize I could do that. Now, if I can just get over the fact that people start threads like that on purpose . . . and swallow my petty anger enough to read it.

I don't think so. Thing is, I probably couldn't even tell it was a thread about the golden globes because I don't click those threads. I usually just ignore them. :)

That's one of my pet peeves as well. It's like some people put little or no thought into their titles. How do they expect to attract views, let alone comments, when their titles are non-descriptive and boring and reveal nothing of the threads' topic?

I'm surprised that as writers, so many of us put little or no effort into devising titles that are engaging and will help to attract attention to our threads...

I prefer all threads be titled "writing question enclosed."

That way, the question almost always meets my expectations.

I know, right! Like when someone titles a thread something like "Boy Do I hate..." and I have to click just to find out what it is they hate! They could have told me in the title! ;)

Many other vbulletin forums give users the ability to preview the entire original post. AW should add this feature.
