Standard issue for an expedition outside England. Cold climate, harsh conditions. Small detachment of less than 50 soldiers. Tents made of canvas, pot belly stoves burned coal for heat, travel with whiskey, mules to haul supplies? Anything along those lines and more. Thanks

Take a look at Sir John Franklin's expeditions.

Coal is incredibly heavy as a fuel source and much harder to find than wood or animal fat (or alcohol, but I think alcohol stoves didn't come in until the 1860s). I can't imagine any expedition bringing coal.

I would also think that rum or brandy would be far more common for an expedition's supplies than whiskey.

Read some of the Flashman books, particularly Flashman at the Charge - the period details for the British army are very good.
