I've come across an article about book doctors who claim to be agents as well. A conflict of interest, I would think.

Opinions, please.

A conflict of interest can be managed. A lot would depend on how they did that, and whether they were actually good at both jobs and did them for the same manuscript or not.

Can you link us to the article?

I think that if anyone says (or implies) "Pay me to fix up your book, and then when it's good enough, I can sell it for you on commission," that person is someone who should be fled at top speed.

I can't tell from your comment if that's what you're talking about.

In the US or UK?
There is a very large difference in the way book doctors are regarded in the UK. I can certainly name you one top class UK agent who also does book doctoring.
