I thought I'd run the working title for my forthcoming bestselling anthology of poetry *cough* past everyone here...okay, it just came to me and I said to myself, hell, I'll see what people think. I reckon it fits my personality. Sorry, personalities.

Here it is:

Voices in My Head.

Think it suits me? :D:ROFL:

Thing is, I don't yet have a poem with that title...is it acceptable not to have a '...and other poems' title? Just something that would tell people, "Yeah, that's her all over..."

That's you. Just wait - one of those voices will give you the poem.

I have plenty of titles (2 for a dollar) waiting for a piece of work. No fooling. Google some of the those titles in my blog (haha-fooled you)
I made them up - waiting - for the voices...

I like it, but I recommend checking Amazon. I had a title under consideration that seemed like a good fit for my novel, and then I realized it had been used too often.

I think I might be okay with the title, mkcbunny; there's no copyright on titles but then again...a while back I thought of 'legion' (as in the Biblical guy with voices in his head...tortured by demons, etc) and what did I find? A book of poems with that exact name. So if both books are poetry anthologies, it might look a bit funny, I agree. However, we'll call it a working title and see if the voices come up with anything else anytime soon. :D

I was just thinking...if there are other books with similar titles, one more won't make any difference, will it? It kind of goes better for me the more there are in that way. If there was one other, it would look like copying, but lots more and it looks like, "Oh well, bit of a tradition there, isn't it?"

Thank you Paint. :D Nice to know there is still a market for, err...'offbeat' poetry, shall we say?

I can be serious sometimes. Just not very often, that's all...

It certainly fits you, Peach. Look forward to reading...
I don't think you need "and other poems", because, the plural in "voices" sort of implies that the poems ARE the voices.

I think that's a great idea, scarletpeaches.

I believe poetry is the one of the most personal types of writing. I feel poems must be honest and reflect who you are and what you feel - regardless if others feel the same way or not.

The mark of a poet is when they can get another person, a total stranger, to feel those emotions and put themselves inside the poet's shoes. Or when they can kindle a spark of recognition in the reader, pluck that chord of commonality that is in all of us.

So, yeah, I think that's a great idea for an anthology, if that's what you want it to be. And I don't think you have to have a poem with that title either. My impression was that the poems are the voices - the book is a compilation of your voices: The Voices in your head.

Plus you can always add a subtitle under it, like:

Voices In My Head
The Collected Poems of Scarlet Peaches,
Before She Was Committed

aruna - very well put. I like the way you don't say, "Oh she's mad, ignore her..." You just let my, shall we say, 'special' brand of humour wash over you in that dignified way you have! :ROFL:

brokenfingers - Thanks. I think. And don't think I didn't notice that subtitle. I'll be watching you.:mad:

I'll write a poem about an evil Santa who sends dog poo to people down their chimbleys. Brokenfingers and aruna are on that list. And possibly KTC, because he could use it in one of his Pollocks paintings. :ROFL:

Actually, my favourite "List" lyrics are these, and very fitting too (my emphasis):

SONG--KO-KO with CHORUS OF MEN.

As some day it may happen that a victim must be found,
I've got a little list--I've got a little list
Of society offenders who might well be underground,
And who never would be missed--who never would be missed!
There's the pestilential nuisances who write for autographs--
All people who have flabby hands and irritating laughs--
All children who are up in dates, and floor you with 'em flat--
All persons who in shaking hands, shake hands with you like _that_--
And all third persons who on spoiling tete-a-tetes insist--
They'd none of 'em be missed--they'd none of 'em be missed!

CHORUS. He's got 'em on the list--he's got 'em on the list;
And they'll none of 'em be missed--they'll none of
'em be missed.

There's the banjo serenader, and the others of his race,
And the piano-organist--I've got him on the list!
And the people who eat peppermint and puff it in your face,
They never would be missed--they never would be missed!
Then the idiot who praises, with enthusiastic tone,
All centuries but this, and every country but his own;
And the lady from the provinces, who dresses like a guy,
And who "doesn't think she waltzes, but would rather like to
try";
And that singular anomaly, the lady novelist--
I don't think she'd be missed--I'm sure she'd not he missed!

CHORUS. He's got her on the list--he's got her on the list;
And I don't think she'll be missed--I'm sure
she'll not be missed!

And that Nisi Prius nuisance, who just now is rather rife,
The Judicial humorist--I've got him on the list!
All funny fellows, comic men, and clowns of private life--
They'd none of 'em be missed--they'd none of 'em be missed.
And apologetic statesmen of a compromising kind,
Such as--What d'ye call him--Thing'em-bob, and
likewise--Never-mind,
And 'St--'st--'st--and What's-his-name, and also You-know-who--
The task of filling up the blanks I'd rather leave to you.
But it really doesn't matter whom you put upon the list,
For they'd none of 'em be missed--they'd none of 'em be
missed!

CHORUS. You may put 'em on the list--you may put 'em on the list;
And they'll none of 'em be missed--they'll none of
'em be missed!

-- W. S. Gilbert

I guess it depends on what they are. Your call in the end. Just though it might be a consideration. One of them was a poetry collection, so maybe you don't want to be confused with that person. Or maybe it doesn't matter. You'd have to look into who the poet was, whether that collection was in print, noteworthy, etc.
