My goals for September:

* Write bunches and bunches of greetings (long and short)

* Write at least one good picture book

* Write some children's poetry

* Begin work on my YA Novel

Mridu

Good Luck with those goals, Arisa. <img border=0 src="http://www.absolutewrite.com/images/emoteThumbs.gif" />

Here are mine:

1. Query at least 5 national magazines.
2. Write 1,000 words of NF book each day.
3. Write a children's story and submit to any magazine.

Re: Re: September Goals

My September goal is simply to survive.

Really.

I'm coming off a month of holidays from my job, and a year's hiatus from school. I'm taking a full course load, plus working half-time (so I can eat and pay the rent). My eldest is also starting his first year of university, so I'll be supporting him.

:ack

I'm hoping to get back to revising my novel, too, and I've got some poems and a short story that need submitting.

So I'd appreciate happy thoughts sent my way.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Re: September Goals

I love school, and I've been missing my friends. It's just a whole lotta work...

(And my profs are on to my excuses for late papers. :ack )

Re: Re: September Goals

My goals:
-Finish the first issue of my magazine, FINALLY. Find a way to print it
-Talk to my agent and illustrator and figure out what we're doing with my book
-Write at least five good poems
-Sub at least 5 things to paying markets

Re: Re: September Goals

Hannah,

What kind of a magazine have you created ? I wish you luck with that, and your other goals.

Dhewco

My September goals are simple too.

Get a day job.
Make it halfway through writing the first draft of my sequel.
Make it 1/3 of the way through my alt. history novel.
(these previous two are more wishes than goals, or so it seems at times LOL)
Send out a short story I wrote.

Yeshanu

these previous two are more wishes than goals

A goal is a wish with a deadline.

You've got a deadline -- end of September. Get workin' Dhewco. You can do it!

:cheer

I want to thank everyone for their encouragement. It is so much better at absolutewrite than at the America Online boards. None of the flaming and the name calling here. Well, maybe a couple, but it's very rare.

Wow, some lofty goals. Good luck everyone!!

I'm starting grad school this month, so I guess my goals are about figuring out how to keep up with that (not my strongest suit!) while also getting back on track with writing. So:

1) Stay caught up with readings & assignments for my grad course
2) Participate in my new writing group (starting this month) at least once
3) Get BIC every day for at least 20 mins.
4) Keep on the gym schedule my personal trainer has set...

I think that's pretty realistic, considering.

Well, it's already the 10th! How's everyone progressing so far? I'm still working on convincing myself I don't suck...
You guys doing any better?

I'm still sane, I think... :ack

(But I'm not back in school yet.)

Re: Re: September Goals

Heh, I'm on Chapter 6 of my sequel. Six more chapters to reach my goal of half-way. My other project is stagnant. Probably because I didn't do a plot outline, instead went by the seat of my pants. But outlining's not a topic for this area.

Re: Re: September Goals

Arisa: It's a teen magazine, mostly by and for teens, but there are some adult writers and illustrators in it, too. My staff is all teens, though.

lol now that I've started school, I'll have to amend my goals to:
-Manage to write something while still doing craploads of homework, dancing 6 hours a week, going to piano, and starting play rehearsals.
-Get 7 hours of sleep at night and manage to eat three meals a day, too.

Arisa81

I am doing so so on my goals.

I AM writing tons of greetings.

I stopped writing the ya novel because I realized it was not going anywhere.

I came up with a picture book idea yesterday that I will be working on this week.

Children's poetry, I have written one so far

:gone heh...

April--

It sounds like you're doing great! Good job. Maybe once you put the ya novel away for a while and work on other stuff, you can come back to it with a fresh outlook and figure out how to get it moving again...Good luck! :thumbs

Re: Re: September Goals

Thanks Melina

Luckily I didn't make it very far in the book...only 2.5 notebook pages hehe. The idea has been so over done by ME, that I guess I was just bored with it.

So I am trying to think of something unique that I think I can handle.

Re: Re: September Goals

Well everyone, September is coming to an end. How is everyone doing on their goals?

I've done pretty well. Maybe not done the exact things I set out to do, but I did things all the same =P

Mridu

Boy, I haven't checked these goals throughout the month. Let's see how I did...

1. Query at least 5 national magazines.
Yep, done. Even got another rejection from Family Circle. I'm working up another query for them.

2. Write 1,000 words of NF book each day.
Ooh yes. I've completed half of the first draft! I'm very pleased with the progress on this one. :jump

3. Write a children's story and submit to any magazine.
Um, well, I do have four days left. Oh what the heck, this one goes into the goals for next month. :gone

How's everyone else doing?
