i think its a very interesting idea and would be a definite eye opener for someone such as I

dear william, would people who post only have one post on the thread?

what if our position changes over time, in beautifully organic ways?

i would have no objection to anyone adding a new poem every so often, as his or her style evolves or skills sharpen. i think that could only add value.

Great idea, William.

Elisa, I love your poem. Very well done and shows you have a great talent.

William, I had a question...I'd like to post a poem, but it has been submitted for publication; what about first rights issues? I know if we post on a password thread they are supposedly protected, but not on this thread?

yes, i see your dilemma. perhaps you could post a quick note about your chosen poem in the thread out here and provide a link to a post in the password section?

I'm kind of in agony here.

I go to pick one of my poems for calling card thread but then I'm haunted by the phrase: that in some way represents them.

I can't choose.

yes scarlet, you certainly should.

jennifer, don't overthink it. the purpose is certainly not to judge the person or his or her entire poetic output by one poem. just choose one that you like for any reason.

William, you will regret saying that. Honestly. My poems aren't all as brilliant as the one in the calling card thread.

Wow! William. You stopped writing poetry? I couldn't do it. I have always just done poetry for warm up. I know that sounds mundane, but it comforts me to get poetic right before slipping into my freelance stuff or my fiction. I need it! It's a pleasure for me. I guess that's why I wouldn't cut myself off of it. Nobody can take it away from me...and it doesn't matter to me whether it's good or bad...it's just there...something to get the words flowing.

Damn! I wish you would use the facetious smiley face when you're doing that.

Heh--I actually don't write poetry. Haven't, since about high school. I had Geoff Chaucer for third period English. He made me promise to cease and desist.

But I do love to come over here and read everyone's stuff.

So I whipped up mine last night. I wanted to work in the words "I promise not to do this to you too often" as a bit of a joke--meaning, I promise not to test the patience of the good denizens of the Poetry forum, too often. Sort of a subliminal message.

I crack myself up.

Oh please do! I don't even belong in there. I've written one poem in years and a few haiku at the prompting of JAlpha or too much wine. So, I threw it in there and feel half a fool for having done so. I need a few non-poets to contribute or I'm gonna have to go in and delete mine in humiliation for trying to play in a sandbox too lofty.
