View Full Version : Submission call: No Rest for the Wicked (horror/haunted objects anthology)

11-24-2011, 05:29 AM
Hey y'all!

I'm looking for short stories/flash fiction/poetry for my new anthology, No Rest for the Wicked, published by Rainstorm Press.

Genre: Horror

Theme: Think that watch was such a great bargain on eBay? Think again, Sparky. Some items have a history and we want to hear the gory details of what happened after a haunted object enters the picture.

Deadline: March 1, 2012 (or until full)
Target release date: May 2012

What I'm looking for:
Ghost stories centered on a haunted object that are well-crafted without a lot of fluff. Write tight!

Humor is always welcome.

Stories: 3,000 - 5,000 words in length, but will consider shorter stories if it scares the bejeebers out of me
Flash fiction: Up to 500 words
Poetry: Up to 20 lines

What I'm not looking for:
Gratuitous violence or erotica.

Story authors will receive one contributor's copy (print and ebook) plus the option to purchase additional copies at 25% off the retail price.

Flash fiction and poetry authors will receive an ebook contributor's copy only.

More information may be found on the website (http://norestforthewickedanth.blogspot.com/). Questions? Please PM me here or via the email address listed on the website.

Good luck!

I'm currently writing a piece about a haunted Christmas tree, but it's not Horror. And May isn't exactly the season for that. :(

Send it in! I'm a sucker for AWers. ;) I also looooove humor so straight horror isn't the biggest factor.

I have a piece I would like to submit but although it's horror it isn't centered around a haunted object. Oh well. :( I can't write haunted objects stories very skillfully either.
Best of luck with the anthology.

I have a story based on a haunted violin but at the moment it's at 10,000 words, so will need some editing if I want to submit! :)

11-24-2011, 09:28 PM
A haunted violin? :D

11-24-2011, 09:39 PM
A haunted violin? :D

I know, I know, possibly not the most original idea in the world but hopefully this one is slightly different. ;)

11-25-2011, 06:24 AM
Ah, never mind the violin, I have an idea!

11-26-2011, 06:19 AM
Do I want to know? :D

Do I want to know? :D

I could say "haunted rock", but that's just the half of it...

I'm working on one for you. :)

Excellent! :)

What about language and sex? (Not erotica; but an idea I had involves some sexual content.)

11-27-2011, 08:49 PM
It depends on the story. If it adds to the character development or moves the story forward, go crazy. If it works, awesome. If it doesn't, it may be perfect for another publication instead. :)

Thanks; I'll try to come up with something. (My attempts at "scary" seem to end up being dark comedy.)

11-28-2011, 06:20 AM
LOL, mine do too. ;)

11-28-2011, 06:48 AM
OK, I think I have a story for you, though it'll need a few more beatings with the editing stick. Hopefully it's not too violent or straying too much into the realms of science fiction.

Things that go bump in the night?

(Just checked in because I forgot when the deadline for the anthology is. March 1; right-o.)

I just tried to "like" that post. I spend too much time of facebook.

Beat the rush at the end of the month and let me see what you've got, Absolute Write!

Not this time, sorry! :)

I'ma gonna send one in that doesn't quite meet your word count specs, but there's always a chance I'll catch you on a day you're not counting.

I missed this when it was first posted. I'm glad I saw it today. I just sent a story in.

Haggis: I can't wait to read it! I have no problem with shorter stories if the writing is fabulous. :)

Quantum1019: Got it! Thanks!

On two fronts. How is your Ermas column coming? ;)

Done, but it needs a desucking.

Wed or Thurs okay?

By Friday would be lovely. :D

I still have room in this great anthology!

02-06-2012, 02:40 PM
I may have a story :)

The deadline was March 1st, right? It'll probably be done way before that, but it's good to know anyway.

02-07-2012, 12:21 AM
Yep, March 1st. :D

02-24-2012, 11:59 PM
I have four AWers joining the ranks! Submissions close March 1st, be there or be, well, human-shaped.

I can't submit my piece through the given form.. somehow can't upload the file

02-29-2012, 06:32 PM
I know I'm a bit late on this, but I do have a piece I could send in for this anthology. I have a question though. I live in Belgium, and the Rainstorm Press website mentions that they currently don't accept international submissions. I was wondering if this counts for this anthology as well?

03-01-2012, 02:32 AM
I just saw this and realized I still had time to submit. Polishing a flash piece. Hopefully will have it to you today.

03-02-2012, 05:46 PM
Got my submission in under the wire. I think it's more ghosty than horror, but fingers crossed.

03-05-2012, 04:44 AM
This looks like a cool anthology. I submitted a short piece about a week ago but haven't heard back yet. Any AWers hear back yet on subs sent closer to the deadline?

03-05-2012, 08:37 PM
R. :(

03-05-2012, 09:31 PM
Hello AWers!

Thank you for submitting to the anthology, I was suddenly swamped at the end with great stories and made my final decisions today. If you haven't heard back from me, please send me a PM.

Evasan, I'm sorry I didn't catch this post. Would it upload for you later? This has been a popular anthology and I may edit Volume II for Rainstorm Press this fall, so please consider sending it in then or we can make other arrangements if Submishmash is still having difficulties.

Hello Wyntermoon

Thanks a lot for your concern.

I could, in fact, send through my story 'The Haunted House' which was unfortunately rejected by you.

Thanking you once again for the prompt reply.
