She'll be missed. It took me a while, but eventually I blogged about it with how I felt.

The world of writing grew a little bit smaller today.

Someone I will miss very much, as I couldn't begin to count the hours of pleasure her writing has given me.

Fly free, Anne.

I'm so sad right now :S "Nimisha's Ship" started my enduring romance with Speculative Fiction of every kind. Pern got me through many years of bullying and mocking in high school and "Freedom's Landing" influenced my writing more than almost anything else.

McCaffrey is also responsible, in a good way, for getting me into RP (web-based writing games), writing (through fanfiction), MMOs (Pern MUSH), filk (Masterharper CD got me looking for more fan-made music) and made me consider someday being published (through the Writers of the Future contest which she judged) as a dream that could become reality.

We may not always have seen eye-to-eye on things, like how she was not fanfiction friendly and all that, but she was a real force in the world, in mine definitely.

Clear skies and fair weather, Dragonlady!

I am unsure who she is - was she a member here? - but still, I send my consolences to her family and friends. RIP

Not an AWer (as far as I know?) but something of a legend of Sci-fi and Fantasy. Her books touched a lot of people, teens in particular and she did a lot to help new authors of Science-fiction and Fantasy in their careers.

I'd never seen anyone fall in love with a place the way Anne fell in love with Ireland.

It was home to her in all the ways that matter.

I just ran across this today. Pretty good story. Terry Brooks talks about how he first met Anne, as well as another session later on when he was a young and overly eager writer :p

That's a very sweet blog post by Terry Brooks. “Gosh, Terry, I don’t think I have ever outlined anything in my entire life.” made me smile - Anne McCaffrey has to be the most famous panster I've heard of so far.

I'm going to miss her so much. :(

“Gosh, Terry, I don’t think I have ever outlined anything in my entire life.”

She said the same thing when I and some friends spent a couple of hours with her a few years back. She told me outlining would take all the fun out of finding out where the story was going to go, and there'd be no reason to write the actual book if she had already explored the undiscovered country in an outline.

She will be missed.

She meant so much to me. Even before I read her books, the IDEA of a woman writer writing fantasy books opened my eyes to what could be.

Thank you, Anne
