At a con recently, I was visited by the Book Fairy. A stranger walked up to me and gave me two copies of a novel. The only rule was that I keep one for myself, and give the other to someone I didn't know.
Of course I'll get some flak about the cost of giving books away, but I thought it was a great idea. Not only did two people get an unexpected gift, but I told numerous people about it, showed them the book, and talked to a stranger as I gave him the other. Then I tried it for myself with two books, and it was fun! The bizarre look is worth it alone.
However, I've found the hook. If you're given book 1 of a series, you're compelled to go buy the rest. Stupid faerie.*wink*
