What's the strangest place you've had blog visitors from

Just today I had to look up the country of origin for one of my blog visitors. I had honestly never heard of it before, it's a small British protectorate in the channel between England and France called Jersey with fewer than 100,000 people.

Actually I had heard of Jersey before, and anyone with a moderate knowledge of U.S. geography or bad television would be able to intuit its existence, but I had no idea it was a separate principality.

Strangest place would be from Latvia, it's a small country in Northern Europe. Quite a few others too, but that one I had never heard of before.

Jersey is kinda well-known in the UK, thanks to a detective series starring John Nettles, and not to mention the WWII German occupation of the island.

That's pretty funny. I don't get much traffic from Africa. It's mostly North America, Europe (real cross-section, Czech Republic was big for a while, now France is #1 but normally it's Britain and Germany) and South America (Brazil and Chile mostly).

@Bigwords, do they have the TV show 'The Jersey Shore' over there?

WWII occupation? Yes, when the UK decided it was tactically impossible to defend and so abandoned it...

It is indeed a seperate state (all the Channel Islands are) and has its own tax laws which is why some corporations have offices there (including Amazon).

Strangest place I get visitors from is some site called www.absolutewrite.com. I suspect it is some form of dodgy porn site. A lot of strange people seem to post there, anyway

How do you find out location of visitors? All I can get on wordpress is the website a click came from. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

I use blogger, so I don't know about wordpress. On blogger you just go to your stats page, it gives an activity graph, which posts visitors came directly to and where the visitors came from, both by linking sites and geographically. You can click any of the above for more detailed info.

Apparently so, not that I have ever seen it. From the promos I have seen, it certainly doesn't appear to be something which is to my taste,

You can use separate websites to check the location of visitors, duration of their browsing, what links they clicked, and so on. Some of the information is useful, but mostly it is there to help you push your content to what people want to read - the aggressive marketing of which really bores be, as I like writing about whatever comes to mind.

Ha! I sometimes wonder who actually watches the show. I heard recently that one of the guys on the show who wears Abercrombie & Fitch is such a jerk that A&F decided to give him tens of thousands of dollars just to stop wearing their apparel on the show (serious, not a joke news story).

Oman is probably the most obscure national source of traffic. I also don't get much traffic from Africa, other than South Africa. It surprises me how much I get from the Philippines - 105 visitors in the past month. Russia is a huge source of spam.
