One of the big news stories here in Nashville is the announcement that HarperCollins (a News Corp company) is buying Thomas Nelson.

Thomas Nelson employees about 600 people here.

So, now they're going to use vanity publishing as a means of income too?

Should this be in BR&BC?

Just to fine-tune the point a bit... it's the West Bow imprint of Thomas Nelson that's a vanity outfit (via AuthorSolutions).

It'll be interesting to see what becomes of that, but I suspect HC bought TN because it's one of the largest Christian publishers. It's a nice niche to graft onto HC.

I'll be interested to see if the WestBow thing continues. My guess is not.

I wonder if H will loosen up N a bit in the Christian area? Relax it a bit more?

Is there a list or a chart anywhere of which publishers own what imprint? It's very confusing.

I know, right? I can barely remember, either. Publishers Marketplace has an extensive list, but you need a membership. Wikipedia's entry is here.

HC already owns a division called Zondervan, also Christian publishing and a division called HarperOne, spirituality, etc. publishing. With the addition of Thomas Nelson, they'll have 50% of that market, according to this article.
