B is the right way. I've lost sleep over this. This is so you can pull the roll across rather than down. It gives more control of how much paper is used, which is an important issue in my house. I honestly think that the kids must eat toilet roll because we use so much of it.

If you have playful pets or very small children, you roll it behind so that when it's spun, it doesn't TP the entire bathroom.

If not, you roll it in front for easy access.

There are a few people who prefer one way or the other for cosmetic reasons, but for the most part, I agree with Magdalen: party lines.

But how is this political or current?

Holy Cow! Does everything have to be left wing (A) or right wing (B) in this country? Is there no middle ground?

If "A" means under, then it's under. Over rolls off too much paper at a time.

B all the way. Over. It's convenient and I control how much I take. OVER.

This is why your childen are using too much. Kids give it a yank and it spins and spins.
And can you believe there have been other threads dedicated to this very subject?

I'm just happy when there's tp on the roll. Who cares which way it goes?

The nice thing about feeding the roll from the top is that the end is less likely to disappear behind the roll. The same is true with paper towels.

I'm trying to figure out why that would be the case. Do you mean more paper is dispensed when fed from the top rather than the bottom?

While this is an important concern in today's society, you're ducking the real issue: single or double-ply?

But wouldn't the same be true if the roll were yanked while fed from below as well?

It would seem that controlling how much paper leaves the roll has little or no bearing with how it's placed on the spool.
