Warning: Post contains nudity, chicken and human

Ohhh PETA.

I just lose more and more respect for them every day.

This chicken is too sexy for them:

This woman is not (I have no idea how to make this smaller):
MOD Edit: Image link (As a kindness to the folks on slow internet connections.)

I could pull out a dozen more ads like this from PETA, not to mention they've had TV spots showing women being beaten but that chicken is inappropriate?

It is a bit ironic that a group tha makes people into (often dead) animals (to make a point) is so upset about a publication making (dead) animals into people (for giggles).

But IMHO the pinup chicken is gross.

Sophie Monk volunteered, and although she may have been plucked, she hasn't been beheaded. I agree with PETA for once; the first picture is definately the more objectionable of the two, IMO.

Not that I'm a big fan of PETA or anything.

I think it's gross, which makes it a lousy ad. But I think it's interesting as a piece of photography. Calling it "necrophilia" and worrying about the poor chicken being exploited is ridiculous.

And the PETA ad has a good photo, but the ad is stupid. Spice Up Your Life? Please. Vegetarianism is vanilla.

Okay, she may have volunteered for it, but does that mean it's right to use such images? What kind of message does it say? That it's okay to use women sexually to make a point but it's not okay to put a chicken in a "sexy" pose for laughs? If the chicken had a choice do you think they would feel any differently about it?

Not to mention, PETA would be completely against it if someone played a video of a chicken being beat, but it's okay to make ads showing women being beaten? I just feel like they put animals above women and they will exploit women to make their point but when animals are exploited they cry foul. Not that I'm for animal exploitation but they even have ads with women marked up into parts that say all animals have the same parts - if women are "animals" like they're trying to say, why isn't it that they should also not be exploited? If all animals really have the same parts, why is it that it's okay to show off women parts but it's not okay to show off chicken parts? They're the same right?

This is their video ad where a woman gets beaten to make a point:

This is one of their all animals have the same parts ads and yes, Pam Anderson probably agreed to it, but does that make it right? (This is probably going to be really big? Does anyone know how to resize images because I can't figure it out)

Every time I see a story about PETA getting uptight about something silly or behaving irresponsibly, I am reminded of Mercedes Lackey's short story Last Rights. Like the fictional version in the story, I truly think PETA does more harm than good. I'd much rather support one of the many organizations that goes about helping and protecting animals in a responsible and intelligent manner.

The whole thing, both sides, are ridiculous.

But, honestly, I'd rather look at the posed chicken than anything PETA puts out.

Love it.

I'd cook and eat the chicken and fuck the woman.

Next thread?
I'm glad you've got your priorities right, that's all I can say. I can think of few things more disturbing than a beastialistic cannibal.

I'm not sure that without PETA people would have any awareness of the horrible conditions factory farms are run under, or such things as the practice of slaughtering downer animals (animals too weak or sick to even stand)

That practice is so horrific that the undercover footage that led to laws in California banning the practice was removed from youtube because it violated their policy by containing "shocking and disgusting content."

The ASPCA is great, but they have no interest in such issues. PETA can be a royal pain in the ass, but they are also activists that bring things into the general consciousness that most people don't know about and don't wish to.

"It's downright offensive, not just to people who care about animals but almost to everyone. It's a plucked, beheaded, young chicken in a young pose," she said.

Related: PETA's new porn site

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

*ahem*

Now that I've caught my breath, why does PETA think the chicken is in a "young" pose, as opposed to say, "seductive?"

I don't know...but this whole thing makes me want spicy chicken...

Oh come on, rugcat, you're bumming everyone out. The sole point of this thread is that it's really fun to shit on PETA. Also, apparently, there must be at minimum three to four AW threads crapping on PETA or God kills a kitten.

Wait, where where we? Oh. Chicken is tasty, especially raw and unregulated. In fact, if you haven't eaten a chicken by catching it during its headless run from the axe and stuffing it in your maw, you haven't eaten chicken.

The chicken has nice legs and Pam Anderson has nice feet.

The Peta chick reminds me of the mace incident

Don't ask

The downer animals issue was mainly exposed by HSUS. There are many groups across the welfare/rights spectrum. And in my opinion HSUS, Mercy for Animals and Farm Animal Sanctuary get more done with less grandstanding and hypocrisy. I personally send my money to ASPCA.

Well, yeah. And it's hard not to make fun of them, I admit.

But there were a couple of serious posts stating they do more harm than good, so I thought I'd stick up for them a little.

I agree with this. It's easy to make fun of PETA, not so easy to watch animals be tortured and slaughtered from a couple of feet away.

I look at the chicken and think recipes. Boil some chicken stock with salt, pepper, rosemary, thyme. Let it soak all day, then preheat the oven to 350, season it toss it in. Make a gravy, some potatoes. Sauteed green beans in garlic, olive oil & a touch of bacon.

But somehow I don't think that's what they had in mind when they made this add.

I think a lot of what they are doing is really important stuff. But until they stop using women as sex objects to get across their point, I won't support them. What good it is to call for the ending of exploitation of one group while exploiting the other? I mean, I've seen them do protests where they put naked pregnant women in a cage to make a point, but what about the real women who are shackled during labor because they are inmates or more recently because they are illegal immigrants? When they make that ad where a woman is beat for her coat, what about all the women who are beat because they burned dinner or said the wrong thing? And I fail to see how their porn channel does anything to promote the rights of animals or will change anyone's minds about it. Additionally, they have ties of Animal Liberation Front which depending on who you ask is a terrorist group. They have a good mission, but a poor way of supporting their mission and I can't support them because of that.

Yes it was. The picture is from the NYT food section.
The article which the chicken picture is about ways chef's cook with chicken skin.

Now, see, I actually think those ads are fairly decent, in that they actually do make a point. Whether you agree with the point or not is certainly another matter, but I think I understand what they're trying to say.

Their "sexy" ads, on the other hand, just don't make sense to me. Are they trying to appeal to people by showing them sexy women? If so, it seems hypocritical to objectify women (even if they're volunteering) when they're against the exploitation of animals.

I also find it odd that all the ads of theirs that I can think of feature women.
