Anyone else get away with this sort of thing? My employer bought me an iPad and they do not filter or monitor internet traffic from it. What a joy! Suddenly, i'm looking forward to work again.

How many of you have a real job and writing is just a dream/distraction? I would venture to guess that there are more than a few of us. I write simply because I love it and don't imagine it will ever be my primary source of income. I have made a little money, but my real goal is to create some great literature. I see no value in skimming a few dollars off of the public pool; although I would keep them if they floated by. My desire is to create something memorable, something with intrinsic value.

How about you?

Welcome to AW. Hope you enjoy your stay with us.
How do you like your popcorn?

If you go to the bottom of the page to the 'forum jump' you can scroll down and find all the areas of this place. After you post 50 posts you can use the SYW areas to get help there. The password for some of the areas is…..vista. A word to the wise, it would be a good idea to participate first in helping others before you think about posting your own work. After you have been around here for awhile, then post something of your own for help. Good luck.

Hello to you, and welcome to AW. I do have a real job too (I'm a teacher, and have been for over 30 years) and for me writing is just something I like to do in my spare time. I do get some money from it, but most pleasure I find is in receiving mails from readers who love my books!

I don't have a 'real' job per se... because I'm still a student. I don't expect to make a living from writing- heck I hope to keep with it. It would be a DREAM for me to be able to make a living as a writer, but I'm definitely getting my teaching credentials ;)
