I went for nearly waist length (and quite badly damaged from years of hairdye)

To this.

My head feels so light! I love it.

Looks really good Ann, I like it.

I did the very same thing last year and donated it to Locks of Love. You'll notice it will be easier to take care of.

Lurve the color!

I love the color, too.

I remember the times I've cut my long hair short, and it just feels so...FREE, doesn't it?

I can't stop shaking my head about. Also, my hair is surprisingly curly with all that weight taken out.
I;ve got a couple of pics of the sides, too. I went for asymmetrical, cause I want a really drastic change

Which one?

The one that looks like a smacked arse

So that would be the one I borrowed from you, then.

Your hair looks cute and I like the color, but I still prefer the long locks. My hair is long and thick and have thought about whacking it all off because it's so heavy and hot in the summer, but I know I would hate myself for it. The shortest I will go is shoulder length, and I don't really like it that short. Despite me liking my hair long, I can't stand it on my neck or in my face, especially while working. Short hair comes with easier maintenance, though. At least it won't get caught in stuff anymore. Or, at least not as easily.

I once went from a waist-length perm to a crop in one go. What a relief it was. All that weight off my head and I didn't have to spend an age looking after my hair. Washing, conditioning, drying, styling...

I used to get food in my hair when it was long. So far that hasn't happened with this.

Loads of other advantages, too. It looks better the messier it gets, I don't have to use a big tub of conditioner a month. And friends keep going 'Oh my God! Your hair!' which is quite gratifying.

Scarlett: A waist length perm? That must have been a LOT of hair. I can imagine the relief from the weight. My neck feels loads better already.

One thing, I keep putting my arms behind my head to lift my hair out of the way when I go to sit down in the computer chair (I used to get my hair trapped easily) and getting startled when I realise it's gone.

I can;t wait to see how it looks with a nice outfit and some makeup.

When I get more than a couple of inches cut off my hair I get that startled feeling when I brush my hair and the hair 'stops' before I expect it to. "Oh. I'm at the ends of my hair already then. Right. I got it cut, didn't I?"

Good on you, it looks great! I bet it took a lot of courage though.

Anninyn

Yeah, that's going to be weird.

On the plus side, there is enough hair to get a good sized fistful. I checked.

Tepelus

I get that same feeling too, Scarlett. And when I use the same amount of shampoo and conditioner forgetting my hair is now shorter and I don't need to use as much. That takes a couple of showers to get used to.

I like it. :) Especially the asymmetry. It makes it very unique, in my opinion. Great colour.

Myself, I'm trying to grow my hair long. It's never even been down to my shoulders before. It still isn't, actually, but it's on the way. It's gonna be a hot summer for me if I don't cave in and get it cut short again.

But I really want to see what it looks like when it's long. :)

Anninyn

It even looks good after sleeping on it, which is a first for me.

Anninyn

Oh, I'm discovering so much about this. Bedhead looks good on a short do, whereas on a mass of heavy, long hair it just looks like I can;t be arsed to brush.

Styling is so easy- Just some damp hands to scrunch it up with, and maybe a little spritz of wave spray to keep it in place.

Love it. Love it so much.

Jos IS in a bit of a sulk. He thinks it's cute, but he resents change, and he really likes long hair.

scarletpeaches

When Jos has to look after long hair every day, then he has the right to complain.

Anninyn
09-01-2011, 02:39 PM
He had really long hair for a while. He never conditioned it, and it felt like straw. I cut it off for him.

I don't think he's in a serious sulk, bless him, just minorly disconcerted. He has his preferences, which is fine, just as long as he admits it's my hair.

scarletpeaches

And you've still left him some to pull. You can't say fairer than that.

Anninyn

Exactly! I don;t know what the fuss is. I've been trolling warning him about it for three months.

Husband would take a few days to notice if my hair was completely gone. I went from an afro to straight and long and he didn't notice. He only notices if it's wet.

I love the cut ann!

Anninyn
09-03-2011, 02:50 AM
That's pretty impressive. I think even little oblivious me might notice if a freind went from an Afro to long and straight.

Vanity alert!
They say the proof of the haircut is in the washing. Well, they don't, but they should. A haircute can be great after the salon, but post-washing can look like a dog dumped it on your head.

But this- well, this is post washing, with very little styling (a touch of wave spray)

It's astonishing how your hair seems to change color depending on your mood. When you're serious, it appears darker, and when your feelings brighten, so does your hair.

It's either trick photography, or the most creative hair color treatment I've ever seen!

It could either be the lighting (sun setting) or the fact that years of different shades of red piled on top of each other have created something somewhat unique, where the bottom layers of the hair are really dark and the top layers are almost scarlet.

Or both.

Or maybe I'm a chameleon.

Or an Alien.

OR AN ALIEN CHAMELEON.

...OR AN ALIEN CHAMELEON.
Oh, I hadn't thought of that option, which would make perfect sense.

Regardless the reason, both shades suite you quite well in those images.

Lovely, hairdo! Congratulations on a big step!

My nephew had hair down to the middle of his back. About a month ago he got it all cut off and donated it to Locks of Love for cancer survivors.

Gorgeous! Love the cut, the asymetry, the color. Really compliments your features, especially with the glasses.

There is something freeing about chopping your hair. Mine was to my shoulder blades. Two months ago I got a long pixie cut. Feels great, though I miss my long locks.
