What is Poetry?

Is there poetry in the knife descending on your throat?
Perhaps not to you, but
To the wielder, maybe.

not to march
in formal stance
or fill accountants
heads
rather, a dance
a song
or paint that speaks
the emmotional scale
and still keeps free
as it captures
you and me

I'm not sure I know
any more.

I'm seeing more poems
that I take
for prose.

Likewise,
some that I've subbed
as prose
has ended up
published
in the poetry section.

Poetry is a another form of spontaneous expression.

Organised prose, which scans, and rhymes in the right places. With me, it does anyway.

unfolding tiny
places in the heart
to share with others

For me, poetry is all about "food" and appetites, as with any written work.
A child that picks up a pencil and makes a mark, can call his mark what he desires. The one who then "ingests" that mark then has the position of responder/evaluator of what was just "ingested". Depending on personal tastes, emmotional state and how educated the "palate", the responder/evaluator rejects or asks for more. If that which was "ingested" then becomes so popular that it has mass appeal, it usually is mass produced and is usually "ingested" by the masses. There are those marks that have such a wonderful "flavor" that everyone wants to "ingest" them and those marks are perpetuated generation after generation. They, in turn, are the marks that set the standards for all other marks to attain to for recognition. So,............poetry is, whether it succeeds or fails to satisfy.
