It is my guesstimate that more of your creative types, aka fiction writers, are left-handed than right-handed.

No, make that a higher percentage are left-handed than the percentage of the general population that is left-handed.

So, how about a sampling here, and then we'll count them up and check?

P.S. I don't have to make sense, I'm a Fruitbat.

Righty all the way. My left side is completely ornamental. I only keep it because I'd look funny without it.

Thanks, Perks.

Poll is started, please "vote."

*Your screen name will show along with your choice.

Also, does anybody know a solid source for what percentage of the population actually is left-handed?

I was born right-handed, but suffered an injury on my right hand about 20 years ago which forced me to become more ambi. I answered right-handed because that's what's natural.

For the ambidextrous among us, do you have to consider which hand to use when writing your grocery list? If the pen and paper is directly in front of you, which hand do you pick it up with?

Ambi.

I usually pick up the pen with the right, but if I'm feeling that lazy (and I'm on a certain side of the table), I'll use my left.

Btw, does this extend to switching knife and fork, as well as using chopsticks?

I write with a pen that's superglued to my nose. It keeps the concentration levels high and it's the only way to be sure.

More mundanely when I'm plucking feathers from rabbits I use my right hand.

On this label the family crest depiction of a severed left hand tells the story of a rowing competition among the O'Neill's & the O'Reilly's (Owen Roe was an O'Neill). Whoever touched land first after rowing across the lake was rewarded with the land he touched. Lagging behind, one of the kinsfolk grabs his sword to cleave his hand and pitches it ashore to touch land first. He won the land and eventually ruled over it as king.

Ambi. But I was one of those kids that was "encouraged" to write with the right when I started school so it has become a habit to use the right when picking up a pen.

I'm kinda ambidextrous, but not really.

I write left-handed, but I do everything else right-handed. Well, I eat with either hand. But sports, driving, using scissors or knives, shooting my gun...all right-handed.

I have no idea what that means.

There was no option for me. I'm mostly a leftie, so that's how I voted, but certain tasks I can do only with my right hand, like scissoring. (I can't make left-handed scissors work any better than the next person, who's probably right-handed.) I sew with my right, and can't throw with either--both feel wrong.

I'm a righty, although I've always wanted to teach myself to use my left as well. It's just super hard :D
