Well, it's off. Sent this morning! The advice I got on this forum about query letters was extremely helpful. Thanks to everyone who chimed in. Now we're crossing our fingers that...
1) We will get offers from one or both
2) We will NOT be required to cut the novel too drastically (at 120k, it's sort of at their upper limits). We worked out the plot exhaustively with spreadsheets, graphed tension levels and everything, and I don't think there's any fat left to cut.
3) We get a cool cover!
If we get rejected we'll send it off to different publishers, but I'm hoping like hell that either Samhain or Carina will want it.
I didn't write a word of fiction before February 2010. We started writing this novel in March 2011 and finished it in five months. Not matter the results of this submission, I'm very proud! I got this far by working hard, having high standards for myself, studying writing non-stop, writing late into the night and having lots of positive reinforcement from friends and family.
