I just got a new computer and a new keyboard, so I figured I'd see how fast I was on the new set up....

Sadly I haven't written anything in about a year and my skills have tanked.

I only got 95wpm... :(

That means I'm up to taking 13 hours to write a first draft. (I used to do it in around 10)

Whats your level?

95 wpm seems good to me.

When I've gone on interviews and had to take a stupid typing test, they just wanted you to be able to type at least 50 wpm.

With the test, I'm at 75 wpm. But I'm faster from brain to fingers rather than reading-brain-fingers.

Average speed for most folks is about 30 wpm I believe.

Fast typists, like transcriptionists, max out usually at 100 words per minute or so. 90 is the minimum WPM rate for live broadcast transcription. Highest ever achieved was 216.

53 wpm with 6 errors. But my laptop isn't the best typing setup.

100wpm with 99% accuracy. The missing 1% is because they broke that pesky double dash (--) with a line break and I missed the second dash. I'm a pretty fast typist, but sadly it doesn't help much with writing. I spend all my time trying to figure out what to write. :tongue

Suppose I can leave and come back in another 6 months again. Was hoping coming back here would make me write again.

Erm, a typing test is a lot different than pulling words outta yer butt and typing them down three fingers at a time.

Well, I only use three fingers. Unlike you speshul folks...

How am I supposed to read your stuff if you don't write it?

I've written plenty. Just stopped writing a while back. Haven't finished a novel in over a year...

95 wpm?!

My typing speed is 63 wpm, for crying out loud!

And the speed with which I write fiction is slower than that - around 2000 words an hour on a good day. So an 80k draft would take me about 40 hours.

And whenever I'm trying to type faster, I make heaps of mistakes. Like now.

I think when I did a typing test last, I had 63wpm with like 8% error rate...

I might do this test later, but I can't be bothered right now. (Especially as I'm making about 4 mistakes per word...)
