Are you sure your email was hacked or was yours spoofed? Check your Sent box. If the box has copies of the emails, it's hacked. If it doesn't, yours was probably spoofed. Meaning they only used your email address with a system that made emails look like they were from you, rather than actually being sent using your email account. Anyone getting it that actually knows who you are might be coincidence.

Common email addresses ([email protected]) are more at risk of spoofing.

Just to be safe, hope you changed the password.

My e-mail was hacked recently too.

Fortunately, it wasn't my writing e-mail address. It was just my personal one, ie. family. So I just closed that account and created a new one for family stuff.

One? I got like six.

Diana you weren't hacked; I suspect you either were phised, or you have a keylogger or one of the exploits that targe specific email providers, like yahoo and hotmail.

You need to do some deep scanning for malware.

If you have an email address like that, it's more than likely just spoofed. They can keep using it because they don't need access to your computer or your email account. They just use your email address as a "mask" so it just looks like it came from you.

Or if you have sent email in your inbox, and it's only targeting emails from your address book, it's as Medi said and then it was phished or something else.

I'm a recipient; it's absolutely either a case of phising or malware.

The body of the letters is telling; the links are associated specifically with phishing and malware.

The same thing happened to several members of my church this year. It is quite embarrassing to receive an invitation from a church member to buy a bunch of viagra.

maybe we should start a new thread on how to deal with viruses, phishing, fishing, flying, reeling, dealing, malware, stealthware, spyware, hardware, and underware (as in underhanded - not the boxers or briefs kind).

Oh dear, I didn't mean it like that . . . just that it's a ginormous board, and flea might not even know that the Geeks have been sequestered in Tech, so we don't infect the rest of you . . .

i like the fun. i also have my share of anti virus stuff. Even the best of them missteps and allows an occasional virus.

I had a "boot virus" once. I wanted to put a sock in it. Sheesh.
