"An amateur photographer documents his torrid affair with a taxidermist."

Though not from a book, I did stumble upon this one flipping channels late last evening. I'm sure there are far worse one's out there, but this one kind of stood out.

I don't consider that a hook at all. It's just a one line synopsis. I don't really believe in hooks, for that matter, but if I did, that "hook" could be written with any two professions, and still read the same.

A real "hook" makes me wonder what the heck happens next, and gives me a reason to care.

I agree with Mr. Ritchie. That's more a logline, a very brief synopsis designed to give the reader or viewer a general idea what a story is about.

I would have been riveted to that movie all night. Unless another movie about a stamp collector and a mortuary attendant was on a rival channel.
