The dark side of the moon, making sinister plans..
I just saw probably the strangest thing I've seen in weeks and felt the need to share and see if anyone else wanted to share other bizarre sights.

I'm not generally a cat person. I like them and they seem to like me, never had one as a pet. The ones I have known over the years seemed more like the masters of the house, than the pets. Aloof, free spirited.

I just saw my neighbor go outside with his cat. It perched on a rock and he told it to stay, while he got in his truck and drove off. It stayed. For five minutes without moving. Then it cleaned itself a little. And stayed for five more minutes before going off and doing whatever cats do.

So, that was definitely the strangest thing I've seen in a while.

I don't get out much :)

It's not something I've seen yet, but there's an Almond Festival I'm going to later today. That's sure to be a weird sight... Hundreds of people getting passionate about almonds.

But seriously - there should be plenty of tasty food and drink (I don't think they'll have alcohol though...) and last time I went (way back when I was a kid living in the town that holds the festival) they had some pretty cool rides. Like, rides that sent you upside down, spinning around, generally at a decent height, wishing you hadn't had so much onion on your hot dog... :D

Not sure what they'll have this time. As far as I know, the best ride they ever had has since been banned.

*shrug* It's something to do. And I might even run into some people I went to Primary School with, which will be interesting I suppose...

The strangest thing I saw today?

I poured some food into my hungry Himalayan's dish.

My sister's kitten came running, and sat about three feet away. Every few seconds, she scooted her butt across the kitchen floor, positioning herself just a few inches closer to the big kitty's bowl. Eventually, she stopped, and looked down at the big kitty's tail. She reached out and touched it with her paw.

Big kitty ignored her.

She touched it twice more.

Big kitty lost her appetite, and walked off.

Well, it was yesterday, but a small black snake came under the door and right into the middle of the room. (I had just the screen door closed because there was a thunderstorm and I like the wind, etc).

Why, hello!

He made himself right at home.

I didn't see anything totally strange today, but I did overhear a really odd conversation standing in line for movie tickets:

Person A: You're still an assassin?
Person B: Yes, but it's not as much fun as it used to be.
Person C: Feel guilty, do you? (laughs)
Person D: No, I don't feel guilty. I don't kill children or elves.

:Wha:

Next to the cafe I stopped in this afternoon was a bike shop specializing in expensive trendy fixie bikes. That's pretty normal for LA. The weird thing was they were all all-white bicycles--something that I think most city dwellers (especially bike-riding ones) associate with ghost bikes. A ghost bike is an all-white bicycle chained up at a location where a bicyclist has been killed in a traffic accident, as a memorial and reminder to cyclists and motorists to be careful. The shop was closed and I just found it all really spooky. Riding an all-white bicycle seems kinda like sleeping in a coffin or putting headstones in the yard to spruce up the garden.

I just saw one of the long, chinese like dragons, really, really big too, smashing its way through a hospital and the adjorning parking garage trying to get it's teeth into a girl.

It's not something you see everyday.

Of course, I'm watching a movie called Dragon Wars on SyFy.

What, does that not count?

A movie on SyFy that was not so awful that it incapacitated its audience? Yeah, that's pretty strange.

I saw something that made me sort of sad - but it was strange.

I was dropping something in the slot in the post office and saw a man walking by. He was filthy, with this weird matted head of hair sticking at least a foot in the air. He was waving his arms and shouting at nothing, and then he stopped and did some really amazing kung fu moves against an unseen opponent. Apparently, he defeated him, because he continued down the sidewalk and stopped yelling and gesticulating.

As I leave for work I usually tell my cat to go and sleep in the sun.

I must be a frigging genius cat trainer... because that's exactly what he does! He spends most of the day carefully obeying my instructions!

Okay, so I didn't make it to the Almond Festival.

So the weirdest thing I've seen today would probably be... Hmm... I can't think of anything really weird that I've seen today.

Oh, maybe 2 people on TV wearing T-shirts that had pictures of lambs on them with the word "Chump". That was pretty weird. Not because it's a hugely witty T-shirt or anything, but simply because these 2 people allowed themselves to be demeaned for a competition.

Actually, considering most reality TV, that's not that weird either...

Okay, let me try again!

Oh! A supermarket where the aisles were only big enough for one shopping trolley to go down it, so if there were ever 2 trolleys going in opposite directions, someone would have to go backwards to the end of the aisle.

That's pretty weird...

I rounded a corner and caught sight of a television in a window. It was playing a generic modern music video, with wild colors and women in lycra doing high kicks.
I adjusted my gaze and realized that an old man was watching it. Then I saw he was having his hair cut by another man, and both of them had their eyes glued to the screen. There was even a barber pole painted on the window.
The juxtaposition really tickled me :)

I don't know guys. The strangest thing for me today was really getting derailed by Kitty's blog...(the MG and YA) which I always seem to gravitate towards. It was a lovely blog and I read SO much and even wanted to comment, but all this other stuff came up on my screen and I gave up...weird, huh? It wasn't the "strangest" thing I saw today...it was just weird that I saw "Writing Great Characters with disabilities in MG and YA and got so engrossed with it and yeah derailed too. I just don't know what's truly eating at me these days. (sorry if this is too over the top)

People are strange, when they are strangers...(wasn't that the "Doors") Maybe listening to music will sooth this savage beast.

Nothing all that strange today, although M+S has had a refit and nothing was in the right place. It was disorientating.

Yesterday, however, I was at the pride parade. It got protested by some people- but only four people turned up to protest it. At that point I think I would have gone home, rather than be four people frowning at a whole parade. Somewhat uneffective.

Later, the leader of the protest was wandering the streets, using his giant cross as a walking stick and singing under his breath.

I moved recently from Texas to Chicago. Went to the driver's license office at Thompson Center, downtown Chicago, to get my driver's license. Nothing spectacular, not as bad as I was expecting.

But while I completed the written test I saw a blind man, with cane, being escorted from one set of tellers to the counter for the driving test.

Really. They were escorting the blind man through the room to get to where he would sign up for his driving test. The escort even said "We'll be making a right turn in two more steps," as he led the man by the arm.

I have no idea how that went, but as I walked back to my place I kept a VERY close eye on the traffic.

Today on the subway, I saw a woman pick up a dollar by a guy's foot and hand it to him. He looked bewildered and asked the five people sitting around him if the dollar belonged to any of them. They all denied, and the guy reluctantly pocketed it.

I was just holding my breath waiting for people all over the subway car, to join hands and, start a love train, love train. I was shocked by this display of goodwill by so many of my fellow angry urban dwellers.

Creepy and wrong.
The other day I saw a pigeon chase a squealing girl around a café.

This morning I saw a guy walking down the street wearing a backpack vacuum cleaner. At first glance I thought he was dressed up like a Ghostbuster.

My life would be a lot more interesting if he was dressed up like a Ghostbuster. Even more so if he was, and it was somehow related to the pigeon.

Okay, so I went into the city today.

The main shopping street there (that doesn't allow cars down it) is called Rundle Mall. Every time I've been there (except today) it's seemed like one continuous length of buildings, with the occasional side street housing more shops.

Recently a big store was torn down (moving locations) and so today, with that fact entirely not in mind, I was surprised to walk down the mall and see a very large vacant lot full of dirt (fenced off, of course) and a clear view to some random large buildings a couple of streets away.

It was so surreal... This once confining strip now had a huge hole in it. It was as if a giant ant had made a hole into a tree's cavity. I half expected vikings to come pouring through the gap, at last free to enter after years of being blocked off... Or something.

So that was weird.

A couple weeks ago, I saw a few cars driving in formation. One was set up with cameras and lights and all that jazz. A couple others had cameras and were filming. Plus a cop car following them.

Two days later, I saw the Pussy Wagon on the 405. Coincidence?!
