I'm trying to determine the population number for Gilroy, CA for around 1880 (I'd be happy with any number from 1865 - 1900). My google attempts have only given me 1999 and forward (or unrelated information). Any thoughts on how I might find the information?

Many Thanks.

I googled it and this came up. Hope it's what you needed:

http://www.bayareacensus.ca.gov/cities/Gilroy50.htm#1940

The link is for 1940, but it goes all the way back to 1870. In 1880, the population was 1,621. Good luck!

Thank you, it was exactly what I was looking for. What did you type in to find it?

I typed "Gilroy 1880 census" and found it. My google-fu always works for others, never when I need to find out random stuff for my own writing. :) Glad I could help!

The U. S. Census Nureau has all of the results available online.
Here's the 1880 census:

and here's 1800

Just type in the desired year in the affress bar.
