For my lyrical poetry class, we had to go through magazines and pick out phrases we believed would make for an insightful title of a poem. Our assignment is to derive a poem from the titles we chose. I like all of mine, and can't decide on the strongest, any opinions would be great.

A Furry of Recent Speculation

Independent Climate

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth

Promotional Materials

Encode the Story Line with Bulletproof Encryptions

Near the Center of the Crowd

Drugs They Need to Survive

Nobody Ever Said Beauty Was Simple

Snap Judgment

Balance That Risk

One idea you might try is to set a stop watch for 5 minutes and do a freewrite for each title. Afterwards see which of the freewrites inspire you the most. ( BTW is the first title supposed to be Furry or Flurry?)

I agree with ricahardo - that's a good suggestion.

But, I also have my two favourites from the starting position.

Independent Climate

and

Near the Center of the Crowd

That doesn't mean they are the best; a title has to interact with the poem it represents, and that is where titles succeed or fail.

Ricahardo's advice is SPOT ON

I'm assuming you will be graded on the poem as a whole, so you HAVE to go with the title that gives you the most theme-based content. Searching for a title first is really just an exercise in using a writing prompt to create a poem, and if you create a poem that really engages you, beyond the assignment, you may end up changing the title anyway.

Please be sure and share your poem with us when you complete it :)

Sounds Like Fun

Bullet Proof Encryptions (<<<I'd shorten it to that)

The Meek Shall Inherit the Earth (my friend says the meek inherit a dirt nap)

I think JAlpha's on the right track though. Which title gives you the strongest poem?

What ever you do, xlovex - have fun with it. It sounds like a lot more fun that naming parts of speech. <wink>
