I would like to wish all those south of the border a Happy Independence Day. Enjoy the bbq's, the get-togethers and fireworks whereever you are.

Thank you, sailor. A tip of my sailor hat to our friends to the north.

Maryn, who'll see fireworks later

Thanks, sailor. Much appreciated.

No fireworks today, but I'm off to see the Capitol Steps (http://www.capsteps.com/) in a couple of hours. It's always a fun time.

Happy Independence Day, fellow 'mericans.

(Independence Day) will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more. Happy Independence Day. No fireworks here, either, but a full complement of parade, balloons, picnics, barbecue, concerts, et al.

I'd also like to express my appreciation for living in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, which is not only a diverse, fully integrated community, but also where my 10-year-old can discuss Thomas Jefferson's philosophical influences with our alderman as we march in a parade.

That is absolutely great. My only question is: Can your alderman hold up his end of the discussion?
