I'm looking for a good reference book (or other resource) on FBI and Police procedures. I have a character who is a criminal investigative analyst (Profiler). I don't know the first thing about this stuff and, thankfully, the character's job isn't the focus of the story. However, when they are at work, I want to make sure what they do is accurate and believable.

Thanks for any help :)

P.S. Along the same vein, maybe also a good reference book on criminals and their modes of operation, how they think etc. Who knows, the story may turn into a series.

Writer's Digest Books has a whole slew of books on this. Here's just a few for you:

Just the Facts Ma'am - A writer's guide to investigators and investigator's techniques

Police Procedural - a writer's guide to the police and how they work

Howdunit - How crimes are committed and solved
