....before disposable nappies were invented, babies had to wear plastic pants over their towelling nappy. The pants had elastic around the waist and legs.

Does anyone remember what they were called?

The reason I ask is I'm watching the tennis and one of the woman is wearing a skirt that reminds me of those pants.

Hmm. I always thought they were just called diaper covers, or plastic pants. Don't know if they had a proper name.

I'm sure they did here. It's really bugging me now.

You could be right.... rubber pants? Errrmmm.... no, it's not. Of course, the word I'm trying to think of could be a regionalism. I'll have to ask my mom.

The connoisseurs I've met call them rubber pants.

I used to have towelling nappies but they were never covered with anything...

We called them rubber pants unless the seat was decorated with rows of ruffled lace. Then they were rumba pants.

After you talk to your mom, tell us the regionalism?

Maryn, curious

I would love to see my mother's face if I told her I was going to put a rubber on the baby. She nearly passed out when I told her people didn't get their tongue's pierced to look cool! What can I say she asked!

Not A rubber! LOL! Plural, woman, plural!

Now I'm going to be laughing all day! I needed that! She would still pass out.
