Various politicians and the AARP are currently running around saying you don't need to cut Medicaid because the National Science Foundation is wasting all this money on Jello Wrestling and shrimp treadmills.
None of them can actually explain what the shrimp research was for. And the Jello thing is bollocks. Amd none of it is on the scale of savings needed anyway.
I am really sick of the media's joy in leaping at 'science is silly' stories but I would have thought the AARP could do a little better. Like, not beating a convenient scape-shrimp when you don't actually know what they hell you are talking about. Like not running an expensive prime time ad opposing medicaid changes when the AARP leadership themselves recognise they will be needed

And yes, I am a former research scientist which is why I suspect the shrimp were on the treadmill for a reason.
