Baseldytsch (Regional Swiss German from Basel)

How to say "Good night" in Baseldytsch? And if possible, could someone suggest a folksong or lullaby which would be specific to this language/region? Something old which would have been around in 1789?

I'm not from there, but I had an aunt that lived there. She always said - Guet Nacht - so it's the same as in Swiss-German. I don't think you could write it any closer than that. There might be a small phonic difference - but that's impossible to write (at least for me). As to the songs - you might think about writing one of the historical societies in Basel - I assume that's your best bet.

Oh, wow, thank you so much! I appreciate the translation a lot! :-D And that's an excellent idea about writing to the historical societies in Basel...I never would have thought of that (gotten too prone to giving up if Google fails me! :p)

Thanks - I kinda like it too...

I tried to google songtexts in german and english, but I couldn't find anything. You sure you can't just switch to regular schwizerdütsch? There is like a club for traditional folk-music:

There is one group that works on keeping the dialect itself alive - they might be able to help you. Although this is more of a political interest group: http://www.igdialekt.ch/ - but they do deal with the baseldytsch dialect and its traditions.

Oh wow! Thanks! I just revisited this thread- I really appreciate the links! Off to check them out! Yes, general Swiss-German should work too for the case of the songs, I think.
